You may have seen this on Jalopnik or the Today show, but if not here's the video. A 19 year-old allegedly driving a stolen Nissan Murano SUV ran into a Chicago cab, then the cab driver allegedly prevented him from leaving the scene. The rest of the video clip is somewhat self-explanatory.

At 1:58 into the clip, the Murano slams into my brother's 1992 Oldsmobile Achieva SCX. Its a rare 1 of 1146-made homologation special for IMSA Firehawk racing back in the day, and they're 190 horse FWD little corner carvers. Fun car, and a blast to drive...or at least it was. Special FX3 adjustable suspension, sway bars, and other goodies. The rear axle looks like it took the force of the hit directly into the curb. Ouch. Its painful to watch!

And here's how it sits today.

He's currently awaiting insurance stuff, and the car suffers rear axle / bearing noises, a smashed quarter panel, and even the front alignment is messed up. A sad end to such a great little car he's had since he started driving. Just wanted to share this with you guys. It was fairly clean and he's kept it up over the years. I hope the insurance people take that into consideration. Here it is a few summers ago.

Crazy how small this world always ends up seeming when you're on SVTP.

Good luck to your brother!

That sucks man. I hope they catch the guy.

Sucks that the taxi driver trying to help the situation resulted in many more cars getting damaged.

He was allegedly drunk. Not sure on the sitution with how he got the car, etc. Its going to be a headache but we're hoping to be able to save the car. We'll see what shakes loose. Thanks everyone.

Well that certainly sucks. Hopefully everything works out for the better.

And I think that driver would have had better luck not hitting cars if he were blindfolded. Wow, people suck.

Damn, that sucks! The mini van he/she hit at the end was a dealership vehicle as well. Looked like they were on a test drive haha!

Your brother would probably be happy to know that his car is one of the first to pop up when you Google it!

it doesn't look that bad. It looks like every other Achieva, too. Sorry for his loss, either way

that Caddie took a harder hit, in my opinion.

It's not a zinger, it's the truth. It doesn't matter what option packages it has, it was still a poorly built car.

That's an opinion, which some share and some don't. Some people feel that way about Mustangs. The bottom line was it was a rare car that wasn't like 'every other' and it was a clean and great-running 21 year-old car that got wiped out by someone else while the kid was at work making a living right out of college. Now he's likely going to get squat, and its no fault of his own. That's the story, that's what we're talking about.

But go on, tell us all again how crappy of car it was.

Sorry about your brother's car man.

Don't worry about the haters. I love those Quad 4s in that Achieva. I had one when I owned a Beretta GTZ back in the day. It was the American Type R of its day before there even was a Type R.
