I know nothing about any of this. I took a free physical just to get cheaper insurance. Mostly everything came out good & got into the top tier. Found out I have high cholesterol. A coworker told me that their standards are too high & I should be fine. I avoid all pharmaceuticals like the plague so I started to half ass exercise, started taking fish oil, & mix chia/flack seed into my oatmeal daily.

I take a number of drugs including Atorvastatin. I've been on it since I had open heart surgery in 2019. No complaints, and I've taken some nasty shit that was chock full of side effects.

No you're not nuts in the slightest. I for one have actually stopped taking mine because of the side effects.

I've had cramping in my left leg and joint pain for years. When I came off them I had a lot of pain in my lower back and hips for about 30 days.

I am now 100% sure they were also causing issues with my focus. I wouldn't be surprised if they were hurting my sleep as well as I sleep better now.

What pisses me off is I complained about some of the issues to my doctor years ago. I was basically told I have to live with it. This is after the first doctor told me there were no side effects. **** that, I am tired of being in constant pain.

What's interesting about the side effects of Statins is doctors were told for years there were none. They were also told by pharma that the pain their patients were complaining about was in their heads because again there were NONE.

Think about that for a second. Doctors were completely ignoring their patients because pharma said there were no side effects.

After doing some reading and watching videos I am leaning heavily in the direction that high cholesterol is not the problem it's made out to be.

Me too brother! Glad you all take notice to be proactive on the silent killers. I was close to having a pacemaker after a emergency triple. In fact, the wires attached hanging loose inside still. I don't take near as many meds now and feel great.

Not to deviate from the topic. Getting screened for colon cancer should be on everyone's to do list starting at 50. I had a Vietnam vet convince me at 51 not to avoid the procedure. Little did I know at the time he was living out his death sentence and would pass the next year.

When you watch some of the youtube study presentations the comments have hundreds of people telling their horrible statin side effects story.

Type of statin, dosage amount and frequency are important when it comes to sides. Typically the lipophilic/fat soluble statins are the worse, higher dosages tend to see more sides. My doctors have been trying to get me on statin for years and I have always refused. If I were going to try one it would be one of the water soluble statins at lowest effective dose, like Rosuvastatin. I don’t feel compelled at this point, I can go for a run and go miles without getting winded in the least.. my knees will quit long before I run outta gas.

Funny you mention this. I’m doing my Cologuard test on Monday. Yay, I get to poop in a cup. Better than having a camera stuffed up my butt I guess?? Unfortunately I have a hair trigger for gag reflex. This should be interesting.

At 60 yo I'm due for round 2 since I was clear at 51. Just for information purpose, they do put you under for the procedure. The advantage of the colonoscopy is if they see a polyp they can remove it at that time.

Being older and knowing men going through colon and prostate cancer it's a terrible ordeal. Screening is important.

I did the poop in the container, cologuard. Came back clear, my doc wants me to do the actual colonoscopy in 3 years though. I still won’t be 50 at that time, but close enough I guess. They actually recommend screening at 45 now, well according to my doc anyways.. FWIW the Cologuard box is well known by the fedex store employee's, they saw me carrying that into the store. You would think that I had just walked in with a suicide vest on from the way they looked at me. Sir please just put that on the counter :ROFLMAO:

When I first started going to a doc regularly in my late 30s, he gave me what I took as honest information. Main reason was, it didn’t benefit him in the slightest.

This was a sports/health clinic so checked T as well. Big joint with a gym with huge monthly charges etc. Dietitians there that make plans blah blah blah.

My cholesterol was awesome. Doc asked my diet. Among other things, average a lb of meat per day.

He explained that cholesterol levels are more genetic than anything. He had lifetime vegetarians come in and their numbers are off the charts high.

Also, while my T levels weren’t the greatest, he said I should not start supplementing anything and just monitor.

Guess this is why you see fat bodies keep on trucking and then some “totally healthy” dude that works out and eats right drop dead at 50.

Lifetime smokers with zero cancer and then a 40yr old that never smoked die of lung cancer.

Given the recent History of how the Medical Industrial Complex works, I don't trust a single thing that Dr's say. Chances are they have a bias that is tied directly to how much money they can make off of me.
Nearly every Medical School is sponsored by Big Pharma. Their goal is to churn out graduates that only know how to prescribe the latest drug, thus lining the pockets of the Pharmaceuticals companies.
They don't want healthy customers, there is no money in it. They want you coming back for more.

It supports their basic business model.

Get as many people taking as many drugs as possible.

The colonscopy itself is not a problem.

The prep though -- or the "night of a thousand waterfalls" --- is what I hate!
