For you reloaders, do you prefer a beam scale or digital?
For pistol (various calibers but mostly .38Spl, 9mm and .45ACP) and plinking grade .223 I use a Hornady digital powder measure/loader. For precision rifle (various again) rounds I use a beam scale.

Quality digital scale.

My beam scales went in the trash years ago.
Interesting. Most of the opinions I'm getting favor a beam scale. Why do you like the digital more?

Quite honestly, I'd like to think a digital scale would be better, but trying to get a good cross section of opinions.

Im thinking about going pick up a 1911 for target shooting with my buddy. I want a spring field range officer.

Lets see what you guys have to say negative about it for my first 1911.

They fit my method of work better for precision ammo, I drop my charges directly on to the scale and trickle up. For plinking or pistol I have a stage on the press for powder charge

I have an RO Operator, and I like it. If this is your first 1911, you will not be disappointed. Comes with two 7 rnd mags, so if you can , pick up a few spares as you will run through them quickly at the range.

I have a bunch of 1911s, Kimber, etc, and I like my Springfield 1911s just as much.

I've got an MPX and am thinking of getting a scorpion as well. Anyone having shot both have a preference?

I have the second gen MPX and the Evo 3 S1... the MPX walks circles around the Scorpion. But, you are talking about an $800 pistol compared to a $1,500 pistol. It sure as heck needs to be better at twice the price.

They are both nice, but the SIG is a lot more like an AR, which I am intimately familiar. That makes it easier to transition to. The BCG seems to have less mass, giving a bit less felt recoil. The trigger is much smoother and is more easily upgradable since its an AR trigger.

Another thing that I like more... the Evo is almost all polymer. The MPX is all metal. I am not a fan of polymer weapons after having two of them break (crack) after minimal use. (Glock being the exception. Love my G17.)

Also, if you decide to SBR the pistol later or add a brace, the parts seem to be a bit more common for the MPX.

The biggest difference was, I HAD to spend money on the Evo after the purchase in order to be able to use it. The Evo ambi safety sucks. It was digging into my knuckle on my trigger finger, making it extremely painful to fire, even a few shots.

I also like the looks of the MPX more.

Bottom line, even though I have a lot of complaints about the Evo, they are both great shooters and if you have a tight budget, the Evo will get it done. If money is not such an issue, the MPX is a much better weapon, IMHO.

I love my Springfield 1911. If I run out of brass I can throw it at the attacker. Also works well as a club.
