Didn't want to mess up the Trailblazer SS thread, so I started this one.

..anyone have any encounters with the Grand Cherokee SRT-8's? Supposed to go mid 13's stock.

I haven't found anyone to run yet except for a pair of 50 Y/O guys on what looked like 600cc bikes. I surprised them from a light (they were behind me) up to around 80mph and they never got closer than 5-6 car lengths behind me. I'm sure they would have passed me had we stayed in it, but there was a redlight ahead.
These things are stoplight monsters. FWIW, I've seen stock quarter mile times vary from 13.2-13.6 depending on miles, track conditions, etc.

I havent raced one, but I have got to launch a couple at the SRT Track Experience, just up to about 60, then an ABS stop and a hard 90 degree turn, follwed by a short chicane back to the launch point again.

Not only does the thing launch like a catapult shot, but its handling belies its size. WE kept pushing it harder through the chicane, trying to trigger the stability system, it was truly amazing how hard you could push it before the computer stepped in.

I kinda figured that those suckers are no joke. Wonder how the aftermarket for them is? I'm sure Mopar will make something as well...

The aftermarket isn't as solid as it is for Ford/Chevy but it's coming along. Kooks is presently the only company making longtubes for SRT8s, but Stainless Works will be joining in very soon as well. There are a handful of catbacks available including B&B, Corsa/Mopar, Zoomers, etc. CAIs are plentiful as well. Though there are no aftermarket TBs (stock is 80mm) and no decent tuning software available yet either--the later is the real culprit holding most of us back. Hence there is little sense in changing cam or porting heads yet; though these parts/services are available.
There are also 6.4L-7.0L stroker kits.

I didnt get to really run one but my buddy has one. We were playing around on the freeway. He took off at about 50 and I followed and he was slowly pulling away. Off the line they are monsters unless we get a good launch

To the person who put six cars on a 600 cc sportbike. Are you sure they were racing? The new 600 gixers run bottom 12's at 118-119. But anyways, sweet cars, not taking anything away from it, I'm just saying that with a competent rider, any fairly new 600 sportbike should put some busses on an srt8 jeep. Take it easy

You'll notice the part about me taking them by surprise, I jumped them pretty hard. I caught them pointing at my SRT8 badge, talking back and forth, etc. When the light turned (again I was directly in front of them) I hit it and they (I was watching in my sideview mirror) scrambled to get going as they weren't anticipating the run. I got up to 80 and let off but there were really nowhere close. That being said, had we been lined up together and had they known we were going to go, I'm sure they would have walked me. That's part of the fun of the GC SRT8, the element of surprise lol.

Actually, the newer 600s will tickle high-10s w/ an experienced rider. Average guys seem to put them in the 11s fairly easy. Regardless, FourCam mentioned taking them by surprise. A lot guys on bikes can't launch hard w/out bringing the wheel up.

The 600's are rated @ 10.6's from the factory. 750 is 10.2-3 and the 1000 is 9.9 IIRC. This is with a good rider obviously.

Wow I didn't know those 600 cc bikes were that fast. Sorry I guess I read the post too fast that you took them by surprise. You must have had quite a jump to have 6 cars though on something 3 seconds faster lol. Take it easy

The biggest thing killing us SRT8 guys is tuning... Once the codes are cracked and a tuner is available, there will be some fast monsters on the road.

I don't doubt it. Chrysler has always made nice bodies, but have lacked the oomph. Now that SRT has stepped in, they got quite a nice lineup.

If I had the $$$, I'd flex the SRT-8 GC.

My buddy has one with a corsa catback. How do you say they compare to a pullied Cobra? I haven't got to go for a burn in it yet so I have no idea on the performance.

The Jeep will DEFINITELY get out of the gate quicker, but a pullied Cobra will real it back in fairly quickly I believe. Not sure that will remain the case once handheld tuners come out for it. It will need a lot to beat my Whipple......;-)

if the pullied cobra owner can drive it will be ugly for the srt8. srt8 jeeps run at best, what low 13's? a properly driven pullied cobra is capable of mid 11's. so the cobra should walk it, but ya never know, thats why we race.
