Jimi Hendrix- most people don't know that he is a truly awesome blues musician at heart. Check out his blues cd. He is the blues.

Buddy Guy- Hendrix is pretty much the spawn of him.

AC/DC- They have a few blues songs. All of their songs are based on the pentatonic blues scale and progressions.

Aerosmith- "Train Kept Rollin'" That is one of the blues songs by them.

Cream- Most of their songs are blues from the influence of John Mayall.

Almann Brothers- Most of their songs are blues.

Led Zeppelin- Awesome!!! Check out "Since I've Been Loving You", "You Shook Me", "Lemon Song", and "Travelling Riverside Blues". Awesome blues songs.

Lynryrd Skynyrd- "Call Me the Breeze", "Mississippi Kid", "T for Texas", and "I know a Little."

Those are just a few that I could think of off the top of my head.

Oh I forgot. Old old Fleetwood Mack, before the chick came along. They used to be an old blues band. They had the first version of "Black Magic Woman" before Carlos Santana made it famous.

Try Eric Claptons last 2 disc's. Or if you like the older stuff there is always Jimi Hendrix,
Janis Joplin, Van Morrison, John Lee Hooker, B.B.King, TajMahal just to name a few.

question for your question:
are we talking about blues/rock (i.e Zeppelin, SRV, etc)
OR are we talking about down home OG Blues? (John Lee Hooker, R. Johnson, BB?)

For the first genre I would recomend ( a few were mentioned before);
Stevie Ray Vaughn
Jimi (obviously)
The Doors played some good blues
Rolling Stones did some really good stuff
Aerosmith
Allman Bros
Eric Clapton, Cream etc
Eric Burden (SP?)
ZZ Top
Kenny Wayne Shepard (shit his Godfather is BB King, that has to rub off LOL)

Second category;
Robert Johnson
John Lee Hooker
Taj Mahal
Muddy Waters
Howlin Wolf
Ry Cooder
BB King

Lots of great blues bands out there, it's probably my favorite type of music.

Enjoy it

Great selection Alex. Whipping Post is my favorite Allman Brothers blues song. Add Johnny Winter to that list too. Ampstang is right - the original Fleetwood Mac was blues.

I was watching an old Flip Wilson show this past weekend and Taj Mahal was a guest. Singing "Cake Walk into Town." :)

All these posts of rockers doing blues, kinda upsets me! These guys are all good musicians, but if you really want blues, check out some true blues artists.

Raful Neal is my favorite. Hes south louisiana blues artist (whole family is) and has a blues joint in Baton Rouge. He has 3 CD's out, all available on Amazon.com. Be warned though, it will bear no resemblance to the music listed above (albeit its all good).

Some others are Charles Caldwell, Etta James, John Lee Hooker, Johnny Winter. If you want some countryish blues, Lucinda Williams is good too.

Also, if you REALLY want to get into some good stuff, find the local blues joint open nights and drop in. Some of those folks are really really good, and well worth listening too for an evening. Those can be hit and miss though, especially depending on your location. Ive found that the Mississippi river corridor has some very good places. New Orleans does also, but so much Zydeco and country influence has invaded most of the local part time artists. Its still good stuff, but not what i would consider quality blue blues.

One other thing. If you like SRV, check out Corey Stevens. He has, i believe, 2 disks out. He is very SRVish, even doing a cover of his or two. Good artist whose out to play music. Well worth owning the disks and seeing live if the opportunity presents itself. Kenny Wayne Shepard is another good one. Very SRVish. He is a young guy with a ton of talent.

GL!

You oughtta check out some of the stuff be Doyle Bramhall II that guy can wail it heavy. Very Hendrix-esque... i think hes a lefty too. Theres also North Mississippi Allstars are pretty bluesy... and Robert Cray... surprised no one has said that yet... he is some serious smooth blues. Robert Randolph is also pretty sweet. He plays a lap steel guitar and is doin some amazing things with heavy blues influence. He was at the Crossroads festival with clapton, also John Mayer can actually play some very very good blues, a very capable guitarist. I dont know if any of his cd's have blues... i guess he does the other stuff cause thats where the money is. Hope that helped.
