Anyone have any experience with these little trucks? My DD is slowly going and I'm looking to get a light truck.

There is a 2009 GMC Canyon Off Road (z71) with 40k miles I'm currently looking at. I am searching google and coming up with many biased responses (either praising or bashing) and no true first hand reviews from the consumer. My Uncle has had 2 GM trucks (1997 Silverado 1500, 2009 GMC Sierra 1500) and both are/have been great trucks, i just don't need anything that big.

Other options I'm considering:
Hummer H3T (basically a Colorado/Canyon, but frame is different and comes with a nicer interior)
Nissan Frontier/Xterra Off road

Are you looking at 5 bangers or the 8's? I think the H3T is hideous but the Colorado/canyon isn't too bad. How about a Explorer sport track?

I was gonna get one before I bought my ranger but the motor through the deal for me.
If you were going for a light truck may I suggest a Level II FX4 Ranger or a ZR2 S10. I have been in rangers since 16 years old and have never had a single issue. Also a couple buddies have ZR2's and swear by them as well.

My friend who manages a local shop says there are many problems with that line of truck. Mostly the motors being junk because they are actually Isuzu 5cyl.

Are those the only things your considering because of the room/back seats/kids?

I had one for a rental while my 06 duramax was in the dealership for warranty repairs. They considered it a comparable vehicle. lol.

Anyways, I hated it. Absolutely no room in the interior, way too many blind spots, and the gas milage wasn't anything to brag about. I don't have much good to say about it. It's pretty useless. Get the half ton Silverado. They're not that big. lol

I don't like the Ranger or Explorer Sport Track, i just don't think they look all that great.

Im not limited to just the vehicles i listed in the OP, but no cars, SUV or Pickups of similar size. Im open to opinions.

I've got an 06 Canyon Z71 2WD I-5 with 135000 miles on the clock and no problems whatsoever. I haven't done a thing to it besides replace the fuel pump once and change the oil/tires. Been a great solid truck and I've abused the crap out of it. I've managed 26 MPG on the highway once but usually more like 22-24 at 65-70 MPH.

My buddy has a 5.3 Z71 crew cab, its a good truck minus the shitty gas milage. Its a little small for my tastes, but he seems to like it.

stay away from the 4cy and 5 cyl trucks! nothing but bad luck out of our work fleet

Interesting I haven't seen anything on forums citing widespread problems on any model 06+. What are you guys having trouble with?

Unless your drivers are abusing them like a trophy truck, I don't see how the 5s are burning oil. Mine doesn't burn a drop over 5000 miles between changes, will agree the 4s are underpowered though I've towed ridiculous amounts with them that they shouldn't have pulled.
