No the gauges do not affect performance at all.

I think he was asking if the different gauge companies produce different quality units.

Yes, there are good and bad gauge companies. It's all a matter of interal component quality and assembly. Autometer seems to be the standard, and even their gauges have issues. Just stick with a good company (Autometer, Stewart Warner, etc.) and stay away from the extremely cheap stuff.

My three gauges are Autometer Lunar series. I have had them for over four years with out a problem. I have the gauge pods around the instrument cluster and the steering column pod. The nextthing I want is a shift light.
