and took my hood blanket with it. Funny thing is, I just checked the belt this morning and all appeared to be in order. Oh well, I guess i'm lucky it did not completely break and I was very close to the house. When the belt was destroying my hood blanket it sounded like my motor was blowing apart. May seem strange, but all I could do was laugh when I saw what actually happened. Anyone know where to get a new hood blanket. :)

Moral: thoroughly check your belt.

Here are some pics of the carnage.

I've heard the GY Gatorbacks are trash from a service tech. at the dealer. They said it allows moisture to settle in the rivets which kills the life of the belt! They told me to buy Gates before a Gatorback.

It is not the fault of the belt!

The problem is the pulley, made by ASP and sold by RPMoutlet, Motoblue, SFPHQ and others.

There have been many posts and reports about this happening with these pulleys.

I wonder if whom ever sold you that setup, is going to buy you a new hood blanket?

This is true never hear about BF pulley's doing this. I can't thank you doug enough for the products that you offer us. Because it's well worth the money. Keep up the good work

Yes it's the pulley not the belt. My gatorback has 4k on it and it's perfect.

I think resto 5.0 sells the hood blanket. But don't recall the price.

Go over to Modulardepot.com to the Ford Parts section of the forum and get one from Randy at Liberty Ford. Randy hooks it up!

yup thats exactly what happened to my belt, and my hood blanket got shredded the exact same way. i ordered a new belt that is supposebly 3 times stronger than the gatorback. its made by motorcraft. and after my belt broke i might have messed up by cleaning the motor w/ a hose. and now it sounds like the belt is squeaking but i cant figure out from where and if it is in fact the belt. but it does appear to be getting kinda rusted in the middle of the 2.8 pulley. anybody have any input i would REALLY appreciate it, thanks.

Never had this problem with my LFP Pulley setup.... Best quality and most affordable Pulleys on the market.

Have had the Gatorback on for around 10,000 miles with no trouble.

I also had the SFPH Pulley on my Lightning "Made by ASP". Didn't have any trouble with those pulleys either.

My belt had approx. 4200 miles on it and looked perfect. I found pieces of it all the way up my driveway. LOL.
Maybe I'll try Fordparts for the Hood Blanket. I don't know why but I just like having one on there.

If it is the fault of my pulley, YES!

Well crap! I wish I knew that before I ordered my 2.8 setup from RPM outlet. I popped the hood last night and noticed belt dust on my idlers - I've had the setup for less than 1,000 miles. I've heard that some belt dust is normal, but to me, that just means the belt is slowly shredding itself to death.

What is it about these pulleys that are so different to cause premature belt wear?

Right on Doug! Frankly I'm getting a bit tired of hearing rumors passed around that Gatorbacks are junk. That is a B.S. rumor. They are fine. Gates is NOT a superior belt. I never had an issue with my Gatorbacks.

Maybe we can get a "Pulley Specialist" in here to explain. Or better yet a “Retired Insurance Salesman”…. yeah yeah…. that’s it!

Everyone knows a retired insurance salesman is an expert on pulley designs and should be able to educate all of us dummies. :rollseyes

Bob,

They're both great belts...

but I do like how the Gates Belts ride deeper in the grooves of the pulley.
