ive been reading up on the guys that are running e-85 setups and couldn't help but think back to when i ordered my fuel hat that there was an e-85 coating option that i denied!! Does the e-85 eat away at aluminum? how necessary is this coating?

I spoke at length with Justin, Michelle and Stacy at Fore about this and they said they have not had any issues without the coating. As a matter of fact they were going to discontinue the coating option.
I have been running for a year now and I have had zero issues with my regular aluminum hat and filter.
