I had Firefox and I couldn't do shit with it. Half of the stuff on any given website wouldn't show up.

I went back to IE. I don't have pop up or slowdown issues either.

Well that's because damn webmaster's need to realize 10% of the world is looking at their page through another browser and needs to validate their code to W3C standards. 10% may not sound like alot but when you talk in millions of webpages it is.

I've used Firefox long before the name change and haven't had a pop-up in 4 years. Plus I can control my Winamp player through it, have additional adblocking software, change the look whenever I please (i know CSS), get instant weather reports without having to minimize or goto another page, plus the ability to speed up my browsing using tabs...can internet explorer do all of that for me?

Basically, if you go to a lot of porn sites, then you are going to have problems. :nono:

That's bullshit.

I work full time in the porn industry; I run 38 membership based sites and a number of support sites. Because of my work, I visit porn sites daily. I've been running IE with no anti virus / anti spyware / anti adware software what so ever, and I've never been hit with anything. Ever. My wife, on the other hand, who visits all kinds of web sites gets slammed constantly with this crap. Now on both computers here at home I'm running Firefox and other software.

Porn companies want nothing to do with this. Based on the reputation of "porn" from the 70's and 80's everyone things we are drug crazed idiots who want to nail models. The turth is the Internet porn industry is all college educated. It's a common misconception that porn sites have such problems, but the truth is they don't.

This kind of crap more likely somes from computer applications that you install onto your computer? Do you have Kazza installed on your computer? They they are redircting your traffic - You type in a URL or click on a link and you think your going to the right place, but your not.

Firefox sucks compared to IE. It's crashed my computer three times this week alone. Yesterday it forced me to create a new profile; All of my passwords and logins - including the one to this board - were lost.

The problem isn't the browser. The problem is the people using computers have no idea what they are doing and the damage they can cause.

Dunno, since you claim to be able to program can't you do that to IE?

I have zero issues with IE. If you look at the referenced web pages at the top of this thread many are from direct competitors to IE...shoots the credibility in the ass doesn't it.

I work for AOL , hands down it's the best most premium ISP out there. Now we are targeting broadband users. and are having much success. It's the only browser I trust.

I cut out all of what I believe to be absolute b/s. Porn sites suck with mal-ware. Period. As do alot of "friendly" sites that give you "free" software. If the d/l is free,bet me your getting something to make the host monies.

Usually, I would not laugh at comments...but on this occasian I will make an exception. "College educated". HAHAHAHA :lol: :rolleyes: . Porn stars have degrees in what? Sex ed? Right....

Have fun in your selected field of work. Make money, be happy. But dont try to tell folks that people with degrees want to get into porn. You end up in porn.

All this is why I use a premium browser. I just don't think any of these free brwosers are worth using.

I switch back and forth between them depending on what I need to do. I've also had no issues with IE (what do you expect from a network admin?) :) I've followed the security issues that Firefox has had and those issues are increasing with the popularity of the browser. Up until now, Firefox has not had enough market share to make it a worthwhile target for hackers and virus writers. Now it's becoming a much more visible target and the number of bugs exposed are rising with it's market share. Firefox may not have the same issues that IE has, but it has some of its own and they're started to get exploited. Generally, as long as you protect your machine properly, you'd be fine with either browser.

The fact is that Firefox includes it's own userchrome.css, usercontent.css, user.js, pref.js which can overwrite the look and feel of Firefox on the fly, or whenever you feel the need. I've never tried to program towards IE because I'm not sure where to find the files to change or whether they are accessable. And why would I try and change them when Firefox usually has everything I need? Tabbed browsing is worth it alone and personally wouldn't even try to look into IE cause it lacks that feature.

Look at theinquirer.net for IE and you'll see a qoute that the second man in charge at Microsoft uses Firefox...what does that tell you? The reason that the recent polls says IE has less security flaws in it is becuase they release a damn critical update package every 2 weeks and 100+ people working on it, where Firefox i think has about 1-3 guys.

Here's some code I got for you Firefox lovers that could prove usual...stick it in your userchrome.css folder (or if you have ChromEdit extension place it in there).

@namespace url("http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul");
@import url("custom/cutemenus.css");

/*@@@@@@ Changing the throbber to own custom image @@@@@@@*/
#navigator-throbber {
list-style-image : url('custom/throbber.png') !important;
}
#navigator-throbber[busy="true"] {
list-style-image : url('custom/throbber-animated.gif') !important;
}

/*@@@@@@@@@@@@ Make the Search box wider @@@@@@@@@@@*/
#search-container {
-moz-box-flex: 400 !important;
}
#searchbar {
-moz-box-flex: 400 !important;
}

/*@@@@Never show "Open in New Window" when right clicking @@@@@@*/
#context-openlink {
display: none !important;
}

AOL? Bwahahaha. NOT

Laugh all you want, but AOL continues to be the most used ISP. Why do you think that is, maybe it's cause we are the most expensive, hmmm, that doesn't sound right, I got it. It must be cause we provide value to our members. I have had AOL for years and have never had a problem with spyware or viruses. But I hope your free public access ISP is working well for you.
I am not discrediting other ISPs but your perspsctive of AOL is way off.

I started using firefox after I heard about it on G4. Not too long after using it I decided to convert the rest of my family. My grandfather (who doesnt know anything about computers exept how to turn it on and check his email) said it really worked alot faster than "that other program"

I think it's the most used cause it was probably one of the ISP's widely spread and that it provides a user interface that is good with families including younger crowds and older people. It could be that AOL has one of the biggest funds in ad campaigns too. But it doesn't hide the fact that their browser blows balls (inside their window and annoying features) , and that I think spyware is now included with their package if it's anything like AOL IM which included weatherbug and WildTangent (i pretty sure that's it).

Ladies and Gentlemen,

From an Enterprise Hosting perspective, the Internet has standards for deploying applications regardless of the browser you use. The reality is that almost every company out there, regardless of size, has their developers build applications that are optimized for IE. Developers include the subset that produce spyware, etc.

Firefox and other browsers adhere to Internet standards, but cannot display full content (especially anything with activeX controls like IE has) on many sites because those sites were developed around the "IE" standard.

That's OK by me. I use Mozilla and in short order it will have enough security holes to drive a convoy through. Why? Because of popularity. Hackers don't see enough challenge in impacting a smaller subset of browser users, especially those who have a hard-on for Microsoft LOL.

Am I the only one here who uses Netscape? Tabbed browsing, absolutely no pop-ups, always warns of security issues, and paired with high speed internet, the page loading is super fast......... :shrug:

It's the user, not the Browser! In todays world you must run antivirus and antispyware software. Do not install apps unless you know what you are getting. If you do that you will filter out 99.99% of the threats. I use Norton Antivirus, Spybot, Spywareblaster and hijackthis. It's a great combo for safe surfing. Oh and I use IE.

I don't use AOL.

I also don't drive a Toyota Camry, Honda Civic, or Honda Accord.

There are times I'm part of the mob. Computers and cars are a couple of my exceptions.

Probably...but FireFox was built around Netscape's own code.
