I've been wanting to build a nice firepit to go ontop of my patio, I originally was going to build a tumbled stone 1/2 wall and incorporate a firepit within the wall in the corner of the wall. Well I decided it'd be more useful if I moved it out to the center of the patio so more people can gather around it.

I'm thinking a square pit and would like to have a metal insert with the possibility of installing a grate for grilling on top. I don't want just a typical round firepit with Homedepot block.

I've got a decent amount of room to work with, Patio is 20'x40' exposed aggregate.

Like to see what others have done for some inspiration........if you can include any details about the setup i'd appreciate it.

Thanks!

These are the only shots I have with me but my wife and I built this.

It's 42" high, 57" wide and has a 20" - 60k btu fire bowl.

I spotted a dented up old pressure vessel at a junk yard. Went back with a gas cutting torch and cut 36" off the un-dented end. It was about 3/4 of an inch thick and 48" in diameter. Weighed around 800 pounds. Dug a hole to drop it in near the middle of my backyard. Used a huge grinder to even out and smooth the cut. Used it for over 40 years. Burned all my junk wood, tree trimmings, and any other wood I found lying around. Lots of kids dared one another to jump over it while the flames were raging. No body ever died.

Here is mine I built. It has a dedicated gas line that run to it. This is about half way turned on. The flames go about 16-20" out of the rocks on full. Took me about 2 days to build and have running.

We have oberfields.com here in Ohio. Couldn't get anything to pull up on silvercreek ?

Looks good Man O War.....Nice job

Ive met Mr. Oberfield years ago...nice guy and very hands on at the time.

State of the art block plants too!

Try Rockwood retainingwall products or maybe Mid atlantic. They have a kit that is real nice and a breeze to put together...BTW Oberfield has one of the nicest web sites in the Masonry industry...You may start there.
