Mercedes has spent over 3 billion euros developing their all new OM654 1,950L all aluminum 4 cylinder diesel engine which they are touting as "futureproof"
It has made its European debut last spring and it was supposed to make its North American debut in the 2017 Sprinter.

When the order banks were opened for the 2017 Sprinter there was no 4 cylinder option due to hopes that the new OM654 would be certified for North America and be in production vehicles by February 2017.
About 3 weeks ago the old OM651 4 cyliner returned to the options list.
There has not been any announcement from Mercedes-Benz but my assumption is that they want to be sure that it meets all EPA emissions before being put on the market.

I hope all of this crap doesn't drive states like Texas to include diesels in emissions testing, I enjoy my cheap inspections! My GC is older though, it has the Mercedes OM642 3.0.

The tell here is that there is no stop sale........

They are just holding up the 2017 certification. This is not the same as VW.
