I recently traded my 03 Cobra for a new ('12) GT500. I see it comes from factory with syn oil. I'm from the old school and have always used dino oil to break in any other new autos I've owned. Never had any issues. Is it OK to continue forth with synthetic on these engines? Has anyone switched back to dino oil at first change for a few thousand miles, then went back to synthetic? Just want to make sure rings seat properly. Thanks!

Stay with the factory fill until 1K miles then change...read threads on oil as they are all over this board.

Do NOT switch back and forth. Follow the break in guidelines in the book (ok, follow them for a few hundred then start nailing it so everything seats).

Ive used nothing but Ford factory spec for 35,000 miles.... a quarter mile at a time... And it doesn't burn a drop.

You're most welcome. My GT500 turns 6 in June, and it's my pride and joy.

Feel free to contact me if I can be of any help.

You can switch from mineral to synthetic, but not the opposite.

Some companies say you can, but I've personally seen a motor have very serious oil consumption and blow by issues when doing so.

The synthetic apparently leaves a coating that mineral oil can't penetrate.
