Congrats! Since we don't have a Crow Mountain Hillclimb anymore, 10th overall is best I'll ever have. (do have class records in 2 classes, A/Sedan and SPU)
LOTS of history up there. I'll make it one of these days. Good Job!

Bad ass man! That looks fun as hell! There are a bunch of local roads here in NorCal where you can do this, but it'd be illegal:fm:

No kidding. I can think of at least 6 roads within an hour of sacramento that would be awesome to hold an event like this on.

Ever hauled ass up to ice house off of 50?

I still hold the ESP class record in this car when it was NA but it seems really slow now.

Crow Mountain is done??? Why??

And yes, come run Duryea. It's incredible. The road is a serious challenge. My laptop didn't quite like the violence this year and quit so I have NO data log! The radar gun at the finish says I was doing 132mph but I was just over 6k in 5th gear. 6k is 140 so who knows! I won't argue with the radar gun but.......

I can admit that it was THE most frightening set of runs I have ever taken.

sweet, wasn't there and azure blue one that was hitting alot of the hill climbs?

Yes, there was a blue one. He and I were both in that article but he didn't do too many, which was a shame. A picture of 2 Machs in the pits, side by side, was cool! We had a great time.

Nice.
Do you get to pre-drive the route? How many passes do you get? What rear gears do you have?

Edit: I saw a car with only a rollbar. A cage isn't required I take it?

Novices (those that have never run the hill before) get some instruction and a touring run. The touring run is done by pace car and is not done at any speed you would consider competition. But for those of us who have run the hill before, we don’t get a touring run. SOME folks choose to go to the hill early, either Friday or before and drive it at the speed limit. That just gives you familiarization again. I’ll sit down and watch my in-car about 50x’s. Then, I’ll in-car on Saturday and watch the best run Saturday night til I am sick of hitting rewind!

My suggestion for those wanting to run, you pick a similar car and watch their in-car. Then, figure out a way to talk to that person and have them give you their assessment of the hill. I’ve taken people out Friday and Saturday night to give my observations in different corners. However, as a driver giving an observation, there are very few corners in our hillclimbs that I could state “You SHOULD be here or there”, unless you have a similar car to mine.
The amount of runs is really dictated by incidents and amount of drivers. The typical crash takes 45 min to clean up. The Duryea event netted 7 runs total: 3 on Saturday and 4 on Sunday( I took 1 on Saturday and 2 on Sunday). Giants Despair netted 14 runs. So it also depends upon the course and how long it is. Duryea is 2.3 miles and Giants is 1 mile.

The way a driver attacks the hill is really up to him/her. Some race 10/10ths from the green light on the 1st run, til the finish line on the last run. Some come and run 7/10ths on the 1st run and don’t run 10/10ths til they are comfortable with being familiar with the course again.

Crow Mountain kinda went away after Rich's crash in 2009. We did do a 2010 and 2011, but Road was in pretty bad shape last year. County decided not to do again.
We do have a couple of good events over in Robbinsville,NC (think east end of Dragon, except just off Parkway. Chasing the Dragon SCCA Hillclimb Promo on Vimeo
Haven't run it yet. Can't get my rig up the road. Paddock is side of the road below the start.
Those trucks behind the start are actual paddocks. Open trailers work fine, but anything over an enclosed 16 foot won't fit. :^(
Guess you know George Bowland. ;^)

Down south we have SOLO autocross classes that can run rollbars, belts, suits, and fire bottle.
