Do you get nervous while driving your Cobra?

Lot's of good points of view here. I am with most of you.

A: I don't drive my cars much either (Brad). I think I average 150 to 300 miles per year depending on the car (i.e. Roush 150 Cobra's 300), but I have to take them to get inspected yearly so, that's why my coupe was out to begin with. Can't get it inspected on Sunday or after hours.

B: I normally try to stay ahead of the pack. I do this on a daily basis driving to work in my DD. My route changed when going to the inspection, so my style of driving changed to accommodate the route I took. Easy to stay ahead on the highway, not so much light to light and through school zones.

C: I'm not paranoid when driving my Cobra. I am focusing on the other idiots and trying to drive defensively. However, that style of driving takes the fun out of trying to enjoy the drive. Then again, I was taking the Cobra to get inspected, not really trying to enjoy the drive.

I appreciate all the feedback and points of view. Really cool hearing how most of the Cobra owners see their cars, view other drivers and how you deal with the everyday risks of driving your car.

I think in general I fall in line with most of you. Nothing wrong with being cautious.

Oh and to the keying a car comment, that reminded me of something I seen my dad do when I was a kid. He just bought a brand new car (this was in 1977) and when we came back from the store someone was parked next to it. He noticed a door ding. Well, he commenced to keying the S#!T out of the other car and then while he was opening the drivers door he mule kicked the passenger door of the other car.

Of course being a kid I was scared watching my dad do this. However, as I reflect on that incident I have to wonder, was that car responsible for the damage or was it the car that just left and this unfortunate soul who just happened to park next to my dad taking the brunt of someone else's mistake???

Guys, it's a car.
Drive it.
I can't believe all the garage queens in this thread.
We don't own exotic Italian sports cars. They are Mustangs, of which 1000s of examples were built for each year.

It's no fun owning and driving them when you are constantly on alert, only driving in off peak hours, changing driving styles depending on what part of town you are currently in etc.

Hop in and drive as it was intended.

I guess that's one opinion but it might not fit all here.
Me? If I had an Italian exotic, I'd beat the shit out of it & park it outside while my Mustangs were inside being kept pristine and carefully driven.

That's easy to say NOW, but let's see how it goes after you own that Lambo

LOL, I think there are a lot of garage queens in general when it comes to the Cobra. How many times do we read threads where guys just bought a Cobra and when they post up they say it has 20K or 30K miles on it?

I think the guy who just bought a MC said his car only had 31K miles on it.

Let's do the math; 31K miles divided by 15 years old equals 2066 miles driven per year. Sounds like a garage queen to me............LOL.

EDIT: Never mind.... just reread the thread he says it only has 18K. That would make only 1200 miles driven per year.

However, that reminds me of something someone said once. He said "Saving your car is kind of like not having sex with your girlfriend and saving her for the next guy." ROFLMAO!!!!!

That may be for a select few, but not the case usually. And I wouldn't call 30k mile 03/04 Cobra a "low mileage vehicle." Somewhere under 10k would be low mileage.
I mean, I could find a 95 Ford Escort with 30k on it too. Doesn't mean it needed to be preserved like that, it was just never used by the owner(s), which is a waste. Let someone enjoy it and actually drive it.

I'm not trying to start an argument, just don't see why people don't drive their Mustangs, and when they DO drive them, they drive in fear? What's the fun in that?

I agree with you brother. I was just trying to point out that there are a lot of garage queens when it comes to the Terminator. And now a days individuals looking to purchase a Terminator would probably prefer a garage queen or one that has been very well taken care of over something that practically needs to be restored.

No desire to own an exotic. They don't do anything for me.
Don't get me wrong, when my cars get out, they get driven. Hard.
My job & other projects just limit my time to drive, so the miles stay low.

Oh I get that, but why even buy it if all you (not you specifically) are thinking about is the resale value? Seems like a huge waist of time and money.
I mean, it's their money, I just never understood. Don't get me wrong, I don't drive mine in the winter/rain etc. But I sure as hell enjoy it in the nice weather. Going out for ice cream, long Sunday drives, Mustang cruises, etc. I've even taken it to work a bunch of times, which to be a no-no for some reason for others.

Yeah, I know what you mean. We (you and I) just happen to be on opposite sides of the fence. You drive and enjoy. I try to preserve. That's just they way you and I enjoy this hobby.

I understand your point of view. I, for one, did not buy my Cobras for resale value (I know you did not imply that, just saying).

People really do not like the Verts and my coupe is so personalized that most probably would not want it. Now, my Roush I did buy for resale value, but as the years have gone by I realized that was a mistake as they are not really going up in value. Oh well, live and learn.

Cars are very rarely an investment.
I bet that's a nice Roush though.

I always told myself I could never buy a low mileage car just because it had low mileage. I would only go out and put lots of miles on it. It's just the way it is for me. Not to mention these low mileage cars that are never driven are often more trouble than they are worth. I'd rather have a driven, appreciated, and cared for average mile car.
Like you said though we are just on opposite sides of the fence, neighbor!

I’m the same way. While I respect exotic’s I prefer American muscle.

Believe me, I know what you're saying. I live in the Boston area, so I definitely get the whole traffic thing.

I have a 96 Black Coupe just turned 53K miles. Previous owner really pampered it, sunny days only. It has no dents or scratches etc. I only get nervous driving it through a parking lot or if I come across something like a recently chipped & tarred road, or a truck with debris coming off it. As far as insurance I have agreed coverage with Grundy. I was formerly with State Farm who may have given me $8k if totaled. Grundy will give me $15K, enough to find another clean one.

If I must park it somewhere I like everyone else park it way out by itself. When I come back I sight down each side for door dents before I get in and leave. Just a habit.

It does keep me from enjoying it. Today I had a follow up at a major Hospital an hour from my house. Absolutely gorgeous day, but parking is horrible there, so I took the DD.

I know exactly what you mean C6. I have driven in Houston (just passing through on the HOV (high occupancy vehicle) lane) and the amount of traffic is ridiculous. It seems all major cities have this issue.

My city is not a major city. It's a decent size and we have a huge military force here, but compared to the major cities traffic is tame here. Especially if you know the area and how to effectively utilize back and side streets :).

What I hate is at work people don’t seem to care. I rarely take my car to work but maybe once a month I’ll do it. And on that one dam day the contracted Gardner’s cut the grass so close and blow everything to the car . I know that ain’t as bad as a wreck but just you ask yourself why...

I only get scared of the cops bc of what happened to me in the past. I calmed down a lot.

Terminator owners always kept there cars looking there best. Always well maintained since they came out. Part of the cult.

I live in ny. Driving in queens, Brooklyn, Bronx, NYC, some of you would have heart attacks driving through there. The belt pkwy has traffic all hrs. Not just at 8 am and 5 pm lol.
