What's the differences between the various Cobras, say from 1995-2004.

I have an 04 but I'm wondering how it compares to a 1995 Cobra....

everything from 95-02 was NA. 03-04 is supercharged. I believe the 95 had a 5.0 if I'm not mistaken then they switched to the 4.6 and have used that until the GT500. That's about all I can tell you.

94-95 had 5.0 in it.

96-98 had 4.6 DOHC rated at something like 260 I think. Not entirely sure.

99 and 01 were first with IRS, had 4.6 rated at 305.

03-04 were first with supercharger. 03s had the option of being 10th anny cars which meant different interiors and rims IIRC.

96 Cobras were the only Cobras that came with the Mystic option.

04 Cobras were the only Cobras that came with the Mystichrome option.

There's many, many differences.

Oh yeah, no 00 Cobra except the Cobra R. There were 02 Cobras but they were all exported to Australia.

Let's just say that you have the best one.

Second place goes to 96-98.

96-98s were rated at 305? I've always heard 260 and that New Edge GTs were on par with them.

You got me on the 99-01 Cobras. I actually knew that, just wasn't thinking.

yeah, 96-98s were rated at 305, and the new edges were 320. Those are the solid facts for listed numbers from Ford.

I believe the Machs make the same 305 as the 96-98. don't quote me on that tho...could be the 320, but 305 rings a bell for some reason.

Because you have more low end torque. You should have launched on him and then he should have eventually edged you out. (equal mods/drivers, etc.)

but 305 rings a bell for some reason.

I'm pretty sure that's what it is too, though I don't know why it's downgraded from the 99/01s. I think I heard the 5 speeds were 320 and the autos 305? Perhaps a Mach owner can enlighten us?

IMO the best Cobra Ford ever built for the masses was the '03/'04 Cobra. But my pick for the best Cobra Ford ever built would be the 2000 Cobra R.

Sort of.

In '03, they were 305bhp and 320tq.

In '04, they were 310bhp and 335tq.
I have a Mach and wasn't aware of these differences between the two years.....what's change between the two....besides different color options and valve covers, I wasn't aware there was an output difference between the two years.....?

Ford under rated the Mach, some say due to what happened with the 99 Cobra. It's rated at 305 from the factory but is actually 320. I also didn't know there was a difference between the 03 and 04 mach I's

I'm not really sure. I know there are dozens of different rumors floating around, but no substantial answer. I think the main thing is that Ford realized the engine was underrated (Mine dynoed 290/314 stock) so in '04 they upped the power by 5 and torque by 15, which was still a little low. Mechanically, an '03 and '04 have identical engines, (despite valve covers) it was just a numbers game played by FoMoCo.

Fair enough...and in retrospect, considering the '99 Cobra issue, I can totally understand Ford's rationale behind underrating vs. overrating.....! Thanks!
