The FRC was available in '99 and '00, and became the Z06 in '01.

.

It was more limited in 1999 and 2000 than Z06s though.

I think roughly only 4,000 in 99 and 2,000 in 2000.

I believe there were around 6,000 Z06s in 2001 and then 8,500+, (each year) between 2002 and 2004. Not sure of the exact numbers.

Thanks!

But to answer your question, hes MAINLY gonna drag race it, so thats why the questions come up. Is it worth buying the suspension, brakes, etc. When he isnt gonna Road Race.

Thanks for the quick response!!!

IMO if he buys the Z he can put those upgrades off until later since they are already pretty beefy from the factory. He can go with other upgrades like slicks/skinnies, gears, better intake and LT's- for example.

There is a lot more info on Z06Vette.com - Corvette Z06 Forum
lots of really good guys over there- very knowledgeable. Not that the guys here aren't .

I'd say C5Z or C6 if I was advising your buddy.

If he wants to make a track car out of it, why not get a fbody? cheaper to buy, build, and maintain.

How far is he gonna take it too? Just bolt-ons? If so, Z06. If he wants to make 700hp, just get a C5. You'll take anything that makes a Z06 out anyways.

have him research what it takes to make one of these fast, and how much parts are too.

From what I've read a LS6 is limited to about 540 rwhp on stock bottom end.... then again a 500rwhp C5Z is a BEAST!! You're talking a 10 second car or better properly driven.

Correct. I was just correcting the statements that the FRC was only available in '99.

It doesnt have forged internals, so thats a safe number. But yeah, you can safely run 550-600rwhp in one of those with a good tune. Thats basically a cam/head/intake/full bolt-on with a 100-125 shot of n2o. You're gonna need some good tires though! LOL!

Vettes sometimes get a bad wrap when theyre high milage. "stay away! it will be nothing but problems!"...

It really depends on how the previous owners took care of it. If they beat the **** out of it, yeah... Its prob good to stay away. HOWEVER, if they took care of it, they will last a long time. Theres quite a few with 200+ plus miles on the original drivetrain. I think one on corvette forum is aproaching 300K miles. Not saying everyone should expect it, but it goes to show that well maintained cars can last a long time. I almost bought a 99 C5 M6 in LA with 100K miles on it for $9,800. He sold it the day before I came down to San Diego.

There was a 02 Z06 in Houston with 110K miles for $11,200 that looked like it was in good shape too. Had C6 Z seats.
