I took my car into Crystal Ford in Silver Spring today because I had a leak from the rear differential and a pulley making some noise. This is my first time taking the cobra in for service. The guy tells me he can't give me a loaner car because I didn't have my insurance card on me. So I said no problem, I can just get a ride from someone. I went home and took a nap, when I woke up I checked my voice mail. The service writer had left me a message telling me to call him immediately, his voice sounded like something was seriously wrong. So I called him back, the guy says "who put that exhaust on your car?" I told him, "I did." He says he is going to need me to give him permission to authorize THREE HOURS OF LABOR ($250) so he can remove the exhaust to work on the rear. I told him I was not going to authorize his three hours of BULLSHIT labor. I told him just to fix the pulley and I'd be there tomorrow to pick up my car. I will be going to Sheehy in GBURG from now on, the only reason I went to Crystal is because it's 2 minutes from my house.

Keep in mind the only mod I have is a magnaflow cat-back!!!

Do any of you take your cars to Crystal Ford?? If so, have they tried to feed you the same BS as they tried to feed me???? Do you have any advice for me???
Thanks

3hrs? damn, did you ask him what the tech will be doing the other 2.5hrs after he removes and replaces it? beating off or something? watching porn?

I can have my exhaust off in 15min on the ground with a floor jack and hand tools. what a Fuc$ing tool. I would talk to the service manager when you go to pick the car up. Ask to see the book that states the labor time to remove it from a Cobra, not GT. there is no way they say 2.5hrs.

not only that, if the stock exhaust was on they would have to remove it as well anyway and it comes off the same way.

you don't have so super duper custom exhaust or some shit right? just the typical catback?

Jason, I couldn't believe my ears when I heard that guy say three hours. I have a regular magnaflow catback, no custom anything. I guess the tech might be beating the service writer off for the remaining 2.5 hrs. I will have a word with the service manager also. I asked the guy what the difference was between taking off the magnaflows and the factory exhaust, he said it's the fact that someone else's hands were there. So, I don't think I'll get anywhere taking to him. I guess I'll try talking to the service manager and letting him know what happened. Either way I will not be going back to Crystal.

make sure you tell him you won't be back, nor will the rest of the family since they were going to screw you over. someone elses hands..bullshit. a catback is a catback. 4 freaking nuts and it falls off.

The guy is probably thinking he doesn't care if he loses one customer. I don't think he knows the word gets spread real quick around here (MACA). I'll make sure he finds out!!!

Actually what we have here is a classic case of the mechanic not wanting to perform warrenty repairs (because they pay half time), and finding an excuse to get some money out of you. I would cry foul, and never return.

Actually, probably the service writer too....I'm not sure if they get paid commission or straight time at ford.

Well guys, the clown (service writer) from Crystal Ford called me and told me it would be a few more days to fix the noise from the (belt/pulley cover). I showed up and told him just to give me my car and I'll take care of it somewhere else and I'd had enough of his $hit. He told his manager what happened and the manager said "give him his keys and let him be on his way." I politely told the manager this was my first and last time going there and he would lose a lot more than just one customer. He didn't give a $hit he just sat there quiet and faced forward. So I immediately went to Sheehy in gburg and explained my situation and they were just as surprised as I was at the fact Crystal was going to charge me for 3 hrs of labor to remove a cat back. I set an appointment with them for next week. The guys at Sheehy were great!!!! I will be going there from now on.

Thanks for your advice guys!!!
Please Remember Crystal Ford Sux!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had a similar story last summer with them. They wanted to keep it going on a week wating on parts that were shipped incomplete. I went up and picked it up right away. Went back monday morning, waited for the bushing work and never looked back.

Where is your local guy who works on cobras? I am ready for an oil change too.

I work like a minute from that dealership in the same complex. I don't really deal with them in a day to day basis but I am positive now that I won't be taking my car to them for any kind of work.

i bought my car from them and live about 5-10min away from them now in colesville/silver spring.

some serious issues have come up with them recently and I am looking to take legal recourse against them for the car I bought from them.

I have proof (pictures from sheehy proving this..) that my rear quarter panels on both sides were repainted at one point. My car has never been repainted except for the spoiler I put on and the front bumper.

And I have found out from a friend who is a car salesman that a dealership by law needs to disclose information like this and have the buyer sign off on it...

not sure where this will go since I bought the car nearly 2 years ago and just found out about this now...but I do know that I will raise hell.

Yeah guys I live two minutes from crystal ford so I thought I'd give them a shot just because they are close. What do they do??? They try to bone me. I wasn't going to have it though. In my case I don't think it'll help to complain so the best thing to do is get the word out that CRYSTAL FORD IS A BUNCH OF LYING CROOKS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Prasad, it's weird that you are saying this because I do paint/body work for a few dealers in that complex(Mercedes, Dodge, BMW, Audi, but not Ford) but I do know the guy that does do body work for Ford that does the same thing as us and takes the other dealerships we don't. Not sure if he's actually the one that did it, but there may be a pretty good chance that he did. And the only way they don't have to tell you if your car has been repainted or has had body work is if it is under $500 worth of work.

Please do post it NJ. I think it would be good to let people know what they're getting into before taking their car to Crystal Ford. I appreciate your concern.

Thank You,

I took my car to Crystal's when they replaced my tranny, clutch and flywheel. The service manager Keith was pretty cool. He's gone now so I'm not surprised to hear about this.....Sorry you had a bad experience man.
