I can't believe it. I thought i had the fastest mustang in school. Last night i raced my 87 gt with a 347 stroker and got waxed by a 97 Cobra with just exhaust and 410 gears. We hit 5 times and i lost each and every time. The 1st race we pulled fom about 35 in second gear and he pulled ahead by 2 car lengths. 2nd race we pulled from about 20 but i had my car in second gear and he had his in first and pulled on me badly. 3rd race we went from a 10 mph roll and i missed 2nd. the 4th and 5th race went about the same we pulled from 10 mph in first gear and when we clicked into third he would pull ahead by about a car and half. I thought he was an easy win. This is my first stang and my first time racing it. My rearend has been vibrating badly the past couple of weeks and i havent been driving it much at all. I'm hoping when i get my new rearend rebuilt or get a new one that the outcome of this race is different. I didnt go to sleep till 3 in the morning reading about how to race and shift etc.. My question is If my rearend was running perfect and i drove a little better would this guy have beat me?
p.s I was at the track when he ran 13.8 at 103mph.

This was posted by my victim..Each race we went to 110 and I was 1-2 cars ahead...I guess he was wrong.. :burn:

You have a Mustang GT with a 347 but why do you have a 95 Cobra in your sig???

Anyway a properly built 347 in a 87-93 Mustang should lay waste to just about any close to stock 96-2001 Cobra and might even put the beating on some 2003-2004 Cobra's. I know if I was going to keep my 87 LX and put my ported TW Heads, Edelbrock Performer Rpm intake etc and a 331 or 347 in it I think it would beat my 2003 Cobra in a drag race primarily because my 87 LX weighs around 3200lbs with driver.

That's a comical post, a real rookie races from 20 in 2nd. You sure the car isn't misfiring instead of vibrating? I'd check the plugs, wires, timing and if not that driveshaft or for missing wheel weight. Better practice after you get the bugs fixed.

Something is wrong with that dudes car, or he is the worst driver on the planet. He should have torn you apart. Is this a young kids first mustang? Thats to much power for him to handle if its his first stang. Did he put the stroker in or buy it like that. Is he sure that its even a 347 stroker or any stroker for that fact. Let me tell you something 97 cobra, If that guy has what he says he has and you whooped up on him like that then you have the fastest bolt on 97 cobra of all time or like i said he is the worst driver of all time. I guess we will find out saturday, now im gettin a little worried :(

Yeah there is something wrong with that driver/car. A properly built 347 should be well over the 400hp mark. So his car must run like he drives, and neither of them sound to good.

I've got a 347 in my Cobra and I've smoked many a 96-98. From a roll with 380 rwtq you would have gotten KILLED! Something is wrong with that 347, either that or some shop told him they put in a 347 and dropped a 306.

Did your friend buy it with the "347" in it? If so, he probably got screwed. Also, if it does actually have a stroker in it, did the person use the stock heads, cam, and intake or something. A properly built 347 should put no less than 350rwhp to the wheels. A fox GT weighs in at around 3250lbs. The fox should've won even if the driver couldn't drive. A 12.8 is a more reasonable time for a 347 fox.

It may be an improperly built 347. It probably has stock e7te heads on it with an e303 cam and a gt40 long runner intake. It may make some torque but the hp will be not that much more then a stock 5.0

bolt on 4V cobras are quick but if this motor was built right you would have gotten your ass handed to you. My old 351 made 340 rwhp n/a and i ran a best of 11.97@115 with it. A 347 will usually make more power typically then a 351w with the same combination of head/intake/cam. With big cubic inches you can't put stock parts on it and expect it to perform.

The only way to tell if it is a stroker is to take one of the heads off and measure the Bore and Stroke.

a well built 347 will be in the 11s, 10 with the right shot of juice/blower. he has mostly stock 302 parts with that 'stroker'. if it is indeed a stroker, it is starving for air. hes lucky to make 300rwhp with that setup. stock heads gt40 intake and cam? :bored:

This is most likely a case of stock heads + small cam+ ok intake = crappy hp but decent torque. The first 347 I ever built w/ 30lb injectors 70mm tb 75mm m/a, afr 185's, holley syst intake, and a real small street cam with the stock A9L put down 351.2 rwhp and 366rwtq with absolutely no tuning. That in my old '89 (full weight) GT ran 12.09 @113 without powershifting on street tires. So something is definately a-foot at the circle K.....
