Stage 1's could be V6's and had ground effects and suspension. Stage 2 were GT's and had ground effects suspension intake exhaust (super slow). Stage 3's had a blower. Saleen S281's could be bought with our without the blower.

this is true, but topic was about supercharged roush vs a cobra and what is faster, ( being roush stage 3 model or saleen s281-s not the base stage 1 or 2 cars your speaking of.

03/4 cobra's had t56's and IRS as well.

Only saleen or Roush I know of that had irs or t56's were the 03/4 saleen cobra's.

The Roush 380r was probably the coolest or most equipped Roush of the sn95/new edge scene.

The best saleen was arguably the saleen cobra's in 03/04, but many would claim the s351's of 2000-2002 were. Iirc, 495hp 5.8L Windsor with a centrifugal sc. Not 100% on those so if someone remembers, please correct me if I'm wrong. The 2003/4 s281e's had 445hp iirc and an sc'd 281.

Personally, I think the 03/4 cobra's were a league above the saleen or Roush offerings. Yes saleens and roush's usually had well sorted chassis/suspensions, but apart from that, which can easily be changed on an 03 cobra, (and with better results if the IRS is built up), power train and durability were hands down the cobra's forte. I'd argue styling wise, the cobra's offered a cleanly mean yet subtle look where as saleen and Roush were awesome, but very loud about being awesome.

All are great. I'm going to go eat some ice cream as a treat for taking the time to write all that

Yes saleen offered a saleen s281-E model *( extreme)* first year they were rated @ 425hp and then 445hp they had 6 speed transmissions forged motor bigger twin screw blower*(pretty much a whipple blower stock)* in them they were more in the league of 03 -04 cobras, faster stock vs stock then a 03-04 cobra, mm&ff I belive ran mid to low 12's with a s281e and got low 12's high 11's with just tire swap with evan smith driving it, a 03-04 cobra I belive they ran 12.4-12.6 with a tire swap, 12.6 -12.8 stock, even with evan smith I belive they only ran 12.2-12.4. took mods or pulley swap to get the cobra to run in the 11's. so I would say the regular s281 model was slower then the cobra stock vs stock the s281e model even the playing field.

and the 1994-1998 ( also 1999) saleen s351 models were a truck variant s351 motor earlier models 1994-1995 came with gt40 style heads and optional vortech supercharger @ 8psi were rated 495 hp at the crank. later models had edelbrock and trickflow heads I belive and forged internals were rated closer to 500hp . the motor was similar to the 95 cobra R or lightning shortblocks, they were 5.8 liter windsor motors. the n/a models without the blower were rated 371hp with the earlier motors with gt40 style intake and heads, later models were also rated little higher with the better flowing heads, they upped them numbers closer to 400hp @ the crank around the 380-400hp #s Until the shelbys came out with 500hp+ and todays mustangs. the 1994-1999 saleen s351 cars held the record for the highest horsepower stock in any mustang.

The last s351 saleen with the 5.8 and centrifugal blower, was built in 2000. There were only a few built in 99-00 most people think 1998 was there last year. And in my opinion the 2000 s351 was the best saleen. Next to the tt s7 of course

fyi saleen didnt make a "s351 saleen in 2000" the last year of the saleen s351 was in 1999 yes you could prob still buy a 99 saleen s351 saleen new in 2000 or 2001ish but they were all labeled as " 1999" model year.it was the last and only s351 in the new edge ( 99-04) bodystyle and the only new edge body to carry the old pushrod style motor. every other car after had or has had a modular 2 valve or 4 valve motor.

**2000-2001 they only made the base model s281 and the s281s sc model was supercharged gt pretty much same as the roush cars a 2 valve gt motor with a eaton m90 blower ( tiny blower similar to pontiac grandprix and thunderbird sc ran with the 3.8 v6 cars) hence low hp numbers on saleen cars. saleen should of put the bigger m112 on them. then in 2002-2004 saleen came out with there answer to that they upgraded the regular saleen SC model with the newer stage IV blower uppped the horsepower rating from 350hp and 365hp to 375hp. and the saleen extreme models got the forged 2 valve motor with twin screw style blower and rateing was 425-445hp in them.**

Yes you are correct technically the 2000 model didn't exist. But some guys list them as 2000 cause thats when they were puchased, there were a couple sold, 99-04 body style
