I'm almost due to get my car inspected and need to get this fixed soon. The CEL code is P0412. I know it's for secondary air injection but what could be bad and how much would it cost to replace/fix? Any help would be great. Thanks.

I have the same code but I got it after I removed the SAI, It has to be tuned out because my tuner forgot to do it.

Have you deleted the SAI?

Pull your passenger fender liner and look at the SAI pump. A lot of them get corroded after all these years.

That DTC could be caused by any of these:

| AIR circuit open
l AIR bypass solenoid fault
l Damaged PCM
l AIR circuit short to power
l Solid state relay fault
l Damaged AIR pump

If you do need to replace the pump, the Motorcraft part # is F6ZE-9A486DA.
I think I paid around $140, which was better than Ford's price of over $200.
I can't remember where I got it but search the net for that part # and you will find one.
I tried some local junk yards but they wanted too much for me to chance it.

How would I check for those problems without having to take it to a stealership?

It wil be hard to check the wiring if you do not have an EVTM.

| AIR circuit open: Check with an ohm meter across both ends of the AIR circuit.

l AIR bypass solenoid fault: I have no idea how to test this.

l Damaged PCM: Not likely your problem, unless you have tested everything else and it all passes.

l AIR circuit short to power: Check with a volt meter across the AIR circuit and ground. If it reads 12V, this is your problem.

l Solid state relay fault: I have no idea how to test this.

l Damaged AIR pump: I have seen a number of these get badly corroded. It will be pretty obvious if you look at it and it is badly corroded. If it isn't badly corroded, you could try hot wiring it to see if the pump goes on.

The pump isnt corroded or anything. I dont want to spend the money for a pump and it turn out to not be the actual problem.

Well, I had a friend at his dealership check out my car and he said either the pump, relay or fuse was bad and the Hego was also bad and something about the IMRCs being bad but I have no CEL code for the IMRCs. I replaced the pump even though i didn't think it was the problem and still the CEL is still on. What should I do at this point? any help would be great.
