Driving home from work and the car overheated. It was fine on the highway, and as soon as I got on the side streets (just putzing along) the temp gauge drifted to red. I immediately pulled over and shut down. Popped the hood and everything looked OK. Started the car just for a few seconds to see if fan was coming on. Fan did not and coolant started spewing out of resivoir cap. Shut car down immediately.
I then checked the fuse for the fan and noticed it was blown. Swapped the abs fuse to see if fan would kick on using my XCAL 2 I had in the trunk. Fan barely spun and made a clacking sound. So now I know the fan is bad. Let car cool down for a hour or so and limped it home making sure coolant temps didn't go above 204.
Car seemed to run a bit rough so I'm wondering if I damaged something. Obviously I'll replace the fan, and top off coolant, but what should I be looking for? Check plugs, change oil?
