Another guy here at work has a Cobra and he has 285/40/17's on the rear only and it seems to work good and look good.

I just put the new 285 40 17 GS-D3 on my stock rims for the rear and put the 255 45 17 GS-D3 on the front and it looks killer!

I deal with tires all day at work. while it won't really offer any real performance advantage a 285 will give you a larger bulge in the rear and will nicely compliment the vehichle. I would also suggest going with a 265 up front for a more drastic staggered look

I have the Goodyear D3's 285/40/17 front and 315/35/17 rear. These are mounted on 17x9 and 17x10.5 www.WheelReplicas.com new high machine finish Bullitt wheels. Who wants to help resize a picture of this setup for posting? I will say that the wider front tires want to track on any grooves in the road. You know that dart right then left feeling! I will have to check the alignment to make sure it is in spec....I tried to go with the stock size in the front, but Goodyear is out of stock until December! :nonono:

The Goodyear GS-D3 315 is HUGE and I wouldn't suggest it on the stock rim. I know alot of 315's will fit the stock 9" rim just fine but the Goodyear is one of the widest 315's available and I think it would be way to much tire.

i think your speedometer will be a bit off if you go with a 285/40 size tire, the tire will be larger then teh stock 275/40...that's teh main reason I went with 275's all the way around. It doesn't hurt that I can rotate them also :)
