The state is looking at instituting “zero-emission zones” soon.

The state of California is looking seriously at instituting or allowing local governments to institute zero-emission zones in the near future. In preparation for such a move, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) reportedly is gathering information about classic cars and how their owners use them. We knew something like this was coming to the US and California would likely be first, but this is still concerning.

According to a Daily Caller report, on August 2 CARB sent a survey to owners of classic cars from model year 1978 or earlier. The questions were aimed at ascertaining how those classics are used and store, as well as where they’re driven. It even asks about how many miles show on owners’ odometers. Knowing how increasingly authoritarian many government agencies seems to be trending, this is concerning to many car enthusiasts who still live in the Golden State.

Back in the day, California was arguably the epicenter of cool car culture with many legendary brands, builders, and other hobbyists emerging from the state. That all emerged at a time when individual expression, not institutionalized expression, reigned supreme. Unfortunately, that looks to be going the way of the dodo before long.

All 200 miles per year that these cars get driven really adds to emissions... :ROFLMAO:

Exactly, because that's the problem, all these classic cars with no emissions being driven on the streets.

I don't understand why the more technologically advanced we become the stupider our elected officials get.

The land of commies and socialists!
As a Commiefornia resident I am not surprised.

I am willing to bet we see a ban on gasoline sales not long after 2035 when the ban on ICE takes effect. Especially if they don't see enough EVs sales by 2040.

I think a lot of people will hold onto their ICE vehicles especially in the rural areas long after 2035.

And yes we have very rural areas for those of you who think you know California because you've been so Los Angeles, San Diego or the San Francisco.

My brother moved to communism state back in the 90's. He decided to sell all three of his 1970 'Cuda's due the regulations. He stayed out there 4 years and happily left the insanity that is communism.

"classic" is a misnomer and the words usage is intended for you to think of a '63 Chevy Impala

What they actually mean is cars that don't meet whatever the current emissions requirements are and are probably barely 10 years old.

In England this translates into a 2008 Ford Focus getting a daily $50 fine while a brand new $225k G-wagon is good to go...

It's a tax on the poor.

This becomes a huge issue when you realize the average national age of a car is 12.9 years old and in California it's almost 14 years old. Cars don't naturally rot away fast enough in California.

With ever increasing new car costs and EV mandates coming, the goal is to make it impossible to continue to commute in your 2014 Hyundai Elantra or KIA Soul.
