Calif. bill to pay NCAA athletes takes another step
Seems reasonable to me. Most of these athletes after college walk away with nothing more than a worthless degree in some made-up course.

Exactly I used to work with a dude who played for the Jets and Dolphins...he is a general surgeon...earned his medical degree before he went pro...False
I totally agree.Collegiate tennis player here:
NO. Absolutely not. The school gave me free equipment, a free education, and some minor expense money. In return I got a free education, free healthcare, free training, free food, and free tutoring. If an athlete chooses to waste that opportunity by getting a worthless degree it's on them. If you don't think so go ahead and stop complaining about gender studies libs with insurmountable student loan debt.
There's a big misconception that athletes are all idiots that get worthless degrees without ever doing the actual work. Student athletes at my school had higher graduation rates and a higher GPAs than the general student body. We had to. If we under-performed collegiate rules benched us and we were constantly reminded that. Nobody gave us unearned grades or degrees. Our A.D. was on our asses when our grades slipped and as a result of team study sessions, tutoring, and the constant threat of getting the boot I did better in school when I played vs. when I wasn't. NCAA wide student athletes have higher graduation rates too.
So no. Take advantage of the incredible opportunity the university gave you or shut the **** up.
FYI it wasn't free. It was paid for by the tax payers. Your welcomeCollegiate tennis player here:

Most Elite athletes lack the work ethic to get a useful degree.

Tennis. Nobody cares.
Let's be real, we're talking about Basketball and Football. Both NCAA leagues are in a monopoly with the NBA and NFL regarding league eligibility forcing talented star athletes to play for free and risk their futures on injuries to make schools rich.
plenty. feel free to keep living under your rock. What proof do you have of that exactly?
I agree. Some are earning a full ride with room and board paid, some at schools that costs up to or more than $80k a year. That’s nearly $400k in schooling after it’s all said and done. That is good money for a young professional and they leave qualified to make that it or more once they graduate. Hell of a lot better than a $20/40k a year job in construction after high school.Their scholarships are payment enough imo
It's their own fault for "earning" a worthless degree
Or it was paid by the $50 million the football team earns a year....FYI it wasn't free. It was paid for by the tax payers. Your welcome
I dought there gonna waste any of that $50 million on tennis players. Thats all tax moneyOr it was paid by the $50 million the football team earns a year....
What’s all tax money? $50 mill is $50 mill regardless of where they spend it. Off sport scholarships will be paid from the revenues of the school. If football brings in $50 mill is a part of that revenue stream. If they did not have that scholarships and other items would be cut.I dought there gonna waste any of that $50 million on tennis players. Thats all tax money
#learntocodeFalse. Quit talking like they have no options. Especially for basketball, they're perfectly free to go play over seas in Europe, or China for a couple years. But they won't, because they want the exposure they'll get playing NCAA ball.
Dead wrong.FYI it wasn't free. It was paid for by the tax payers. Your welcome
The dream team was 1992? Agassi was the 6th highest paid athlete at the time. Tennis players occupied 3 of the top 10 spots, 6 of the top 20.What’s all tax money? $50 mill is $50 mill regardless of where they spend it. Since you’re in NorCal I’ll share a story. One time the warriors were traveling to Miami to play the heat. At this time Agassi was living in Tiburon. He had a tournament in Miami at the same time. He invited Mullin to travel along. At this time Mullin was an original dream team member NBA all star and probably to ten player in the NBA. Agassi was top 5 in the world in tennis. Who had the cash for the to own his own private jet to Miami? Mullin shook his head saying he chose the wrong sport. Of course NBA pay is a lot higher now.
Dead wrong.
Neither of my alma maters fund tennis through taxes. Not a dime. They rely on donations and marketing deals. Both of my doubles partners played for Division 1 schools....neither of their programs were tax payer funded either. Title IX ****ed men's sports and as a result many are self funded.
