Let’s rewind 18 years to 9-year-old me. I was fascinated with mustangs and loved to read as much as I could about them. My Dad was a big Chevrolet/Chevelle fan, so I didn't have much support in my obsession. One Sunday were walking into church and he points this man out and says see that guy? he has the baddest mustang around, it’s called a Boss 302. he later went on to tell me he bought it new in 1970 and had daily driven it for years, even through the gas crisis. After church was over my dad introduced me to him, they used to play church softball together and my dad used to ride in his Boss all the time. The guy didn't drive it (1970 Boss 302) much anymore but he promised me if he ever got it out, he would take me for a spin. About a year and a half or more goes by and I get a phone call one day and it’s this guy. he says hey. I’m getting the boss out, wanna go for a spin? I ask my dad and he says sure, tell him to drop you off at your grandma's. As he pulls up the driveway this car is hitting a lick hard, we lived in an old farmhouse and it rattled every window in the entire house. As I got in the car it smelled like burnt race fuel and the car was shaking from the huge cam. He had to run by the bank and a few other errands, and he never really got on it. Just cruised around until we got a few miles from my grandma's, he took off from a stop sign and I don't know how high that thing revved but it was wild. He hit every gear like he never quit driving it and it was at that moment I knew I had to have one. I have never forgotten this and I hope I never do.
He never got that car out again and I never saw it again until last night, he passed away a few years ago and his wife brought it out to the local cruise in. I never go to them but wanted some homemade ice cream, so I rolled the cover off my boss and drove out there only to see this car sitting there. Of course, I had to snap a picture. This is the car that started it all for me, his wife that brought the car was tickled to death to see I had one and told me when the 12 & 13 came out he wanted to get one but never did.
