It truly is awesome Glenn. I can honestly appreciate all you’ve done since I’m in the middle of going back up from frame off on my garage built C-10.

There are several times I’ve gotten frustrated or scratching my head about something and I just have to walk away for a day or two, even more frustrating since the parts issues.

I hope mine it half as nice as your mustang when I’m that close to being done. Outstanding work.

It just keeps getting better and better everytime I look at your thread. Im going to have to come up with some other adjectives besides awesome, fantastic, excellent or outstanding because they've all already been said.

I concur!

Thank you Chad! Greatly appreciate that brother!

I really enjoy when everyone looks at my build and provides comments/feedback. However, it really is cool when people who have builds going on comment as well. As you mention, their are a lot of trials and tribulations that cause us frustration. But, on the flip side, there are a lot of moments of great satisfaction as well. Guys who are building something have all these experiences, which I think is cool because it kind of makes us kindred spirits.

I believe when someone has the passion and drive to make their vision become a reality it always comes out great in the end after all the trials and tribulations LOL. So, I'm sure your C-10 will be badass when it's done.

Do you have a build thread somewhere? I really would like to check it out.

Thanks again Chad!

Okay Everyone,

Got the underside of the hood cut and buffed today. Boy what a PITA (Pain in the......) this was LOL. Too many curves and contours. But, damn did it come out great. I don't know too many people who have hoods that look just as good on the bottom as it does on the top LOL.

Here is a before shot. This is on the outer frame. You can see how fuzzy the light reflection looks and you can see trash in the paint.

This is in the center of the hood. Again you can see the light reflection is fuzzy and more trash in the paint.

Half the hood done with 1000 grit wet, by hand.

This is after 1000 grit wet, followed by 2000 grit wet, by hand. I did not sand the entire bottom as there are areas the polisher will not fit in to.

This is after 1000 grit dry on the DA, followed by 3000 grit dry on the DA and finalized with 8000 grit wet on the DA.

This is the front frame section. You can see the haze and no reflection.

And here it is finished.

Damn, this took me all day. It didn't help that the clocks went forward an hour and I didn't realize it. I looked at my phone and it said 10:30. I was like, holy crap I'm late LOL.

The good thing is the sun stays out longer now LOL.

Really love how smooth it came out.

Here are some close ups. This is the center section that was body worked.

Look at that reflection now that there is no trash in the paint and the orange peel is gone. This is what makes all that hard work worth it.

You can clearly see the the light, garage door opener, signs on the wall and the texture in the ceiling.

Here is the front frame area again. Now the haze is gone and the reflection is back. SWEET!!!

Okay Everyone,

I'm trying to get ahead of the game in order to get the car finished.

So, today after work I went in the garage to start cutting the top side of the hood.

I don't know if you guys remember me telling you it was a little windier than I liked the day I clear coated the hood. This put more trash in the paint and has made it a little more difficult to get the clear coat flat.

Here are the before shots and you can see a ton of trash in the paint.

The black cowl doesn't look too bad in the pictures, but trust me, it is.

Here it is after I finished for the day.

Since this has black in it I decided to step up my sanding process just a little.

So, today I wet sanded it by hand using 1000 and 2000 grit. Then I finished it off using 3000 grit wet on the DA (this is the step I added). This is basically the complete sanding process I used when I polished the engine bay.

However, being this is the hood and a focal point, today was just step 1 of my sanding process.

Tomorrow I'll sand it using my step 2 sanding process (Which is 1000 and 3000 grit dry on the DA and then finish it off with 8000 grit wet on the DA).

Don't know if I will polish it this week or on the weekend. However, my goal is to get the hood mounted back on the car for the final time on Saturday.....

Now it's right. Got the orange peel and trash out.

Here you can see how flat the black is.
20220314_181700.jpg

I can still feel the stripe, but barely. I would rather barely feel the stripe than bust through the clear. So, I'm calling this good.

Here you can see all that trash is gone. This should look badass when it's polished.

Okay Everyone,

As mentioned yesterday today was step 2 of the sanding process.

So, here it is after 1000 and 3000 grit dry on the DA and 8000 grit wet on the DA.

This thing is seriously smooth. Should buff out amazingly.....

If it were not for the haze I could almost run with it like this LOL.

The second step of the sanding process actually went pretty fast. The very first phase of sanding (1000 grit wet by hand) is the most difficult because that is the one where I have to remove the orange peel and trash.

Since this sanding process went fast I had plenty of day light left. So, you guys know I had to see how it would look buffed out.

I just did the top of the cowl and damn did it come out great. This should look sweet once it's completely buffed and installed on the car.

Black is beautiful when polished, but damn it's hard to keep up with LOL.

Here you can see the red sides have not been polished yet.

I just love the glossy look of this shot.

Damn, that black looks amazing, if I do say so myself LOL. Again you can see the red side is hazy compared to the cowl.

Man, the reflection in black looks like a mirror when freshly polished.
20220315_172551.jpg

I liked this shot so much I took it again with the polished cowl.

The reflection in that ultra-glossy paint is awesome! That's a hood you're going to continue to be happy with.

Thank you Bob! Yeah, some times I have to go back over it. I'll polish it with step one of the polishing process and then when I wipe it down I notice either some very fine scratches or haze left behind. So, I hit it again with step one and then notice how good it looks.

Then when I hit it with step 2 of the polishing process that's where the gloss and deep luster really shows up. That's when I get excited LOL. Then step 3 is just the sealer, so it doesn't add any more shine, but it looks great.

Some times I look at this car and cannot believe I actually built it. I have always had the drive, determination and the passion, but I always wondered if I had the talent.

You guys have been with me and have seen my mistakes. So, I don't think I have great talent, but my determination to make it right I think is what gets these results.

Always appreciate you commenting Bob! Thank you sir!

It was a long project for you, Glenn, but you had some great professionals give you good advice along the way, AND you were a great student and fast learner. (y)

So now the paint is near perfect, are you going to do a paint protective film(clear bra) over certain areas(or whole car) or give a ceramic coat a try to protect the fruits of your labor? I know the fear of rock chips or paint damage can prevent some people from driving their works of art… even though they were built to drive. I did a clear bra on the front/rear bumpers and was waiting to do the hood due to costs. I have heard great things on ceramics but limited experience with them

Hello Geoff! I have not thought about it too much. My buddy who owns the paint shop did tell me he knows someone who does ceramic coating. He said the guy would charge me $1K to do it.

I have not done any research on this. So, I'm not sure if that is a god price or not. Especially since my car has fresh paint and a fresh buff. So, it's not like the guy has any paint correction he needs to do.

So, I have some work to do when it comes to finding out the best way to protect my paint.

Do it yourself, you've the perfect finish to start with.
Now the best product, that's a can of worms. Lol

Pop in the Show N Shine and look around. Lots of good info in there.

Thank you both for your posts. I need to do research on this as I have no clue when it comes to this stuff. How much, where to buy, best product, how to apply, etc, etc, etc. LOL.

I will do some reading in the Show N Shine section to see what I can find.

Thanks again @kazman and @98 svt .......
