Pandora is an automated music recommendation and Internet radio service created by The Music Genome Project. Users enter a song or artist that they enjoy, and the service responds by playing selections that are musically similar. Users provide feedback on the individual song choices — approval or disapproval — which Pandora takes into account for future selections.

While listening, users are offered the ability to buy the songs or albums at Amazon.com or iTunes Store. Over 400 different musical attributes (see List of Music Genome Project attributes) are considered when selecting the next song. These 400 attributes are combined into larger groups called focus traits. There are 2,000 focus traits. Examples of these are rhythm syncopation, key tonality, vocal harmonies and displayed instrumental proficiency.

I naturally put in Metallica  and it promptly started playing several of my other favorite bands. You can customize multiple stations and add multiple artists per station. I probably like 50-60% of the songs it chooses. That's a lot better than the 5% of the songs I'd say I like on regular or Sirius radio.

Discuss.

Thanks for the link, I've had Yahoo Music free with my SBC account, and it's ok but it plays LOTS of crap.

Pandora is f'n awesome. Unfortunately the company i work for prefers for us not to stream music on the internet. I believe Pandora is available (for a fee) on Sprint cell phones.

Agreed, Pandora rocks. I've got a station built around the 80's hair band "Warrant" and it pulls up all the good rock tunes.

Listening to a song on there right now I've never heard before:

Primo Victoria by Sabaton

Someone needs to make a Mustang video with this song in it.

Edit: Wow, Sabaton is pretty badass. If you like European metal, this is definitely something to check out. It seems they are pretty oriented towards the events of WWII in their music. Here's the lyrics for the afore mentioned song, Primo Victoria:

Through the gates of hell
As we make our way to heaven
Through the Nazi lines
Primo victoria

We've been training for years
Now we're ready to strike
As the great operation begins
We're the first wave on the shore
We're the first ones to fall
Yet soldiers have fallen before

In the dawn they will pay
With their lives as the price
History's written today
In this burning inferno
Know that nothing remains
As our forces advance on the beach

Aiming for heaven though serving in hell
Victory is ours their forces will fall

Through the gates of hell
As we make our way to heaven
Through the Nazi lines
Primo victoria

On the 6th of June
On the shores of western Europe 1944
D-day upon us

We've been here before
Used to this kind of war
Crossfire grind through the sand
Our orders were easy
It's kill or be killed
Blood on both sides will be spilled

In the dawn they will pay
With their lives as the price
History's written today
Now that we are at war
With the axis again
This time we know what will come

6th of June 1944
Allies are turning the war
Normandy state of anarchy
Overlord

I guess WWII was supposed to be a big deal in Europe.

Well, it was kind of the "in" thing back then.
