Battery Blanket?

Just noticed my battery blanket/insulator is coming apart and its creating a nasty mess. I had a guy at autozone tell me those are horrible for us in Texas and they cause more harm than good. Removing it would extend batter life. Seems like Ford wouldn't bother spending $ on this part if it wasn't needed. Maybe I am wrong. Should I just remove it? Replace it? Are there aftermarket options?

Heat kills batteries too, the blanket is there to insulate it from radiant heat. I would leave it on if it's still in 1 piece. If you are worried about aesthetics you could take it off, plenty of cars run their batteries with out covers just fine, but it does serve a purpose.

Rule #1, always disregard what anyone at an auto parts store tells you.

That blanket protects the battery from radiant heat from the engine. Will you notice a 1 or 2 month reduction in battery life without it? Probably not. Run whichever way you'd like to run.
