i have an aeroforce gauge mounted on the steering column using an autometer pod. on hot days i notice the gauge tends to malfunction/glitch or even shutoff when the gauge is heat soaked. once the gauge cools down, it returns to normal operation. has anyone experienced this also with column mounting? im assuming the gauge has some sort of thermal shutdown but im surprised the gauge to be this sensitive given that ambient today around my area was about 60 degrees w/ sunshine when the gauge shut down. this has happened on a few occasions and always when the gauge was is sunlight but never on a cold day or at night.
before i contact tech support i wanted to see if anyone has experienced something similar.

i have my wide band there but nothing close to what you are talking about. Unless those gauges heat up big time.. there is not to much heat on my column

This is directly from the Interceptor Users Manual on Aeroforce's Website:

"Precautions

The Interceptor’s display is designed to operate continuously at temperatures up to 150
deg. F (70 deg. C). The display may appear “washed” out for a minute or so do to
extreme heat if exposed to direct sunlight in hot climates after the car has been parked for an extended period of time. If the gauge is mounted in such a way that it can be exposed to direct sunlight, such as on top of the dash, you may want to consider a windshield shade, or unplugging the gauge for a couple minutes until it and the car cool off a little. If the vehicle will not be used for more than 5 days it is recommended to unplug the gauge(s) to prevent excessive battery drain."

Hope this helps!

Yes I read that in the manual but I'm surprised they're hat sensitive to sunlight. Does any have their aroforce gauge on the steering column ? Most I've
seen have mounted on the a pillar away from direct light. If I have to I may mount below the radio. I'll verify first this is normal wiith their tech dept

Mine is there and I have never had an issue with it. It is my most watched guage too.

I have it on the column in my lightning. It has done this same thing but only once this summer. I just unplugged it at the port and when i got home plugged it in. It hasnt missed a beat since then.

Yes that's how mine is acting...unplugging it helps but doesn't totally fix it When I'm driving out when it's sunny. If this is a mounting limitation that would suck cuz it's perfect on the column

Mine's like that and fine. Did you make sure that the connector to the gauge itself isn't loose? I could see that maybe causing it.

I double checked all the connections and none were loose. I already emailed their tech to reference this thread. I'm thinkigni have a defective unit cuz the gauge consistently does This during the day. At night it's perfect

Both of mine are on the A-pillar and I've had them wash out before when sitting in the summer sun for a long period of time.

The only time I've seen the display wash out or loose some contrast is when the car has been parked and the gauge sits in direct sunlight for a period and gets very hot. This would be during hot summer months. Once it cools down after the car is started and moved they return to normal.

When this happens is the gauge pod hot, or have you pulled the gauge out of the pod to see how hot it was? It would normally be almost too hot to touch when it gets to a temp that washes it out.

Something isn't right if you're driving and this happens, and the steering column mount is not as susceptible to heat as say a dash mount or some a-pillar pods.

It simply plugs into the OBD2 port. It has 2 analog inputs that can be optionally used for additional sensors such as air/fuel ratio, oil pressure, etc. From the OBD2 port you can read:

It's the gauge I watch the most in my car. It's pretty much plug and play and literally takes minutes to install
