Anyone connect their grill to their home natural gas?

Last year we moved and the house we bought has an outdoor gas connection for a grill. I bought the appropriate hose and fittings and hooked up my grill to it. I removed the connection from the tank so the regulator wouldn't be in the way as the gas meter has it's own regulator.

When I got it all hooked up, I turned the valve on the gas pipe, put the burners to light and started the 3 burners. The problem is that the flames were very small and the grill wasn't getting past 250 degrees or so. Previously it could easily do 500 so I'm not getting enough gas flow.

Anyone have any idea what I'm doing wrong? Pics of setup. Seems like 2 psi is what is supposed to go from a tank to the grill per the link below so seeing as it's barely 1 psi that seems low.

Isn't there an orifice or something that needs to be changed going from LP to NG? I know they ask if you have one or the other on these, pool heaters, hot water tanks and ranges.

It appears that there are separate models for LP and NG, see below. I guess I'll have to do more research to see if my LP grill can be converted to run on NG.

I did this swap on my Weber back in 2010 or so. Best idea ever - no more cylinders that go flat at the worst possible moment.

All you have to do is buy a NG valve manifold and NG burners from a spare parts supplier and bolt them in. I don't recall the parts being expensive but that was a while ago. From a fitting and mounting perspective, they're identical to the propane parts so they fit straight in. Internally, they're different so that the NG fuel produces full heat.

Ok, I will take a look at the parts and see if it's worth it.

I always have a spare LP tank around so it's not the end of the world to swap it out. Somewhat annoying though when food is on the grill and it runs out.

The burners have different jets, dude. There are conversion kits out there.

The air fuel ratio is different (as everyone has already said) and the pressure feed so you need to get different jets. All you need to do is go to the MFR and ask for NatGas jets, it takes about 15 minutes to swap them. One thing you're going to find out, though is that natural gas has much less specific heat than propane. You might be able to drill your orifices out if you've got a precision bit set, from a short google search I'm seeing a 35 index drill works for most. Or, you can drill and swap in- look at the flame- you want intense blue, keep drilling until you see that.

Webber used to sell a conversion kit for Propane to Natural Gas, I am not sure they still do.

I converted my Webber 10 years ago and it’s been rolling strong since then.

If you know the burner ratings, we can just look up the correct orifice size and you can drill out the ones already installed. LP runs about 14-17” on the WC whereas NG runs around 6-9”. That pressure difference is why you need to enlarge or replace the jets.

Been doing residential/commercial gas line among other things for over 20 years.
