Hey guys, like some people they dont have alot of choices for pumps around them. I do have one but it is out of the way of everything really so I would have to drive about 25 minutes in the opposite direction I would be going for anything to fill up. I was wondering If I were to get 55gal drums of E85 with a pump in my garage would it be a smart idea? I know E85 absorbs water, would this be a smart idea to do. i would probably be going through one drum every couple weeks if I had to guess on my setup. Anyone doing this, or have other ideas, or would it be smarter to just do the drive everytime I need gas?

Ive got 2 55gal drums, as long as its stored in a sealed drum your good! Just like others have said, whats the difference of it being in the drum and it sitting in the tank..... nothing.

did you fill up drums from the pump? or did you have it delivered as true E85?

When in your tank it is vented. When in a barrel it is sealed.

From the pump after I tested it.

I know that, but if the car sits for several days, weeks, or even a month its not going to hurt the fuel.

Ok here is the next question, how much does a drum cost you? Also how in the heck do you get the drums out of the truck full, they have to weigh a few hundred pounds or so.

just over $100 for a full drum
as for getting it out of the truck, we tipped it on it's side and pushed it bottom first off the tail gate where we had a rolling flat 2'x2' rolling "dolly" and wheeled it over to a corner in the garage.
i've kept mine sealed and i have a pump for 55 gallon drums from my VP113 days

Ok thanks I may have to do this, I dont know how big of an inconvenience its gonna be yet. I'll have to see come spring how fast I go through the gas, if I am going every 2 days to the pump then I will get the drum.

Ive thought about buying and extra 55 gal barrel and pump/siphion it from the full barrel on the truck to and empty barrel on a dolley on the ground.

i had one left over from when i used to run on VP113 but any shop that sells race fuel should have some drums that they'd give you for free if you'd just haul em off in a pickup

Youll have to try and find a company that sells them or some places will ship one to you

Are you guys just pumping off a station or ordering online? Have any phone numbers for companies that sell in bulk? The closest pump for me is 55 miles away.

I am currently buying 20 drums to have shipped to Alaska from Tacoma Washington. Just contact a fuel/oil distributor in your area and they should be able to sell you E85 by the drum. Drums I am using cost $25 each. Some places also might hit you with a filling charge. If you buy in bulk from a distributor it should cost less than at the pump.

Haha. I have a pump that's about 3mi from my house and I think I want to get a drum and pump just for the "cool" factor of having it and filling up in my garage.

We have 8 55 gal drums between 3 of us. We just load them up in the trailer, fill them up and bring them back to the shop. There is only one station 20 minutes away, that's it.
