Growing up in North Jersey we had tons of these places around. I remember Weird NJ was a really awesome magazine that would showcase these places. Alot of them were right around where i lived so my friends and I would go check em out once we got out licenses.
Apparently NJ is the place for all these types of things. There were the jackson whites in the woods, clinton road, annies road, a road called "shades of death rd" (that was the real name) and then the tunnels in clifton, heartbeat road, gravity hill (i know its an illusion but it still freaks me out! How does a car roll backwards up a hill!?) etc. but by far my most keen memory is of Overbrook asylum. It was awesome and terrifying. Just creepy as all **** and strange vibe when you were waking through it. My buddies and I wuld run ahead of the group and hide and scare the **** out of everyone... Then i got lost from the group and was totally freaked out. I had no flashlight completely lost. I wont lie my mind was playing all sorts of tricks on me. But the wind would slam doors and shit and make this really freaked sound. Couldnt see the end of any hallway and always expected someone to grab you or pop out. Anyway. Cops would always come and chase us once they noticed all the unfamiliar cars parked in the neighborhood. So it was a twofer to get to run and hide from them too. Most times theyd just yell on the PA to come out because they werent beat to come in after us.

Heres a look at it these days. Theyre finally tearing it down and ill miss it

Read that 17 patients froze to death in their beds during the winter of 1917 when the hospital's boilers failed. Definitely a facility with a dark past. Before long it will all be just a memory. Eerie hospital for sure.

I've been there a few time in my teenage years, and can remember back when it was partially open. Had some fun times there lol.

I had to go up to Indiana when my father passed in 2014 to settle his affairs and estate. He owned an old one room schoolhouse built in 1914. When I entered the building, it just creeped me the **** out. I'm not one who is usually bothered by old buildings and such but I didn't stay there long after dark. It's 28'x38' with a full basement. It's a very cool structure and solid as hell.

It's just an old schoolhouse in the middle of nowhere surrounded by corn fields. The closest neighbors are about a quarter mile down the road and a single light post luminaries the front of the building. Friggin creepy ass place!

I have to go back up there and finish cleaning it out and really don't want to. At this point I don't know what to do with this place. I thought about fixing it up as a place to stay when I go visit but damn it just creeps me out.

Check out Pennhurst Asylum in PA. HUGE property with many complexes. Shut down many years ago, abandoned, then bought by a private owner who turned a section of it into a haunted tour for Halloween. I have been there. They even have a nurse or two who worked there to discuss what went down there. Probably one of the nation's worst places for a patient during those times. The level of haunt will feed your void.

Is that the "terror behind the walls" haunted house? Never been but heard of it.

Im out in vegas now.. Now whenever i go out in the desert i just think of robert deniro in Casino. " knew about the holes in the desert, of course, and everywhere I looked, there could have been a hole." lol

This is my topic. I got really into the weird NJ/PA stuff back in 2004-2005 and did urban exploring with friends for a while. Usually went at night though to make it more interesting. I had a couple close calls and had some friends who had some, like following old train tracks in the dark and blindly walking onto a trestle with no sides and a huge foot drop. Land owners. Some creepy stuff. A run in with someone illegally hunting on Fricks Lock. He was moving the same direction but he was far ahead of me, we both looked at each other and I waved, he turned around kept walking. Next thing I know he goes out into the woods and started to loop around behind me so we cut that trip short. [URL="https://www.flickr.com/photos/dwmoran/sets/72157623653453307/[/URL]

I always wondered if the police really would come down on you for doing this kind of stuff, especially for an adult. And this is the best Urban Exploring channel out there. This group travels all over https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCKqd8571wN5hD0-odzr9jgg?&ab_channel=TheUnknownCameraman

When we travel to Lime Rock we pass a huge old asylum that is closed down. I can't remember the name but the place is creepy looking just driving by. The grass was all mowed so it looked like there should have been people there and something going on. But there wasn't a person or vehicle to be found and the place was HUGE. I did some reading about it at on point. The place was so big it had is own hydroelectric plant, ice cream parlor, train station , baseball stadium, etc.. Some religious organization had supposedly bought it and was going to clean it up and make it into a school. However once they started researching the cost to get rid of the hazardous materials alone the cost was too much.

We had Fairfield Hills insane asylum in Newton, CT. Google that place! It had a VERY sketchy past. There were underground tunnels we could use to travel from building to building... so many people died there they used the tunnels to transport the dead bodies as to not upset the other patients. Had a full size morgue, autopsy table, theater, bowling alley... the shit we saw in there was some of the creepiest stuff ive ever seen!
