It may bring some good money if that's oem plastics. I think they are obsolete. However it isn't even close to a stock example.

It's just a bolt on bike after that. It may make 40ish hp give or take.

Edit* Upon further inspection, it IS indeed a death machine. Those front China shocks are trash. I wouldn't be surprised in funeral homes sell these.

These are a couple pictures of the "better" failures.

Mmm Kenny Robert's paint scheme...my favorite on the R1 also.

Those things seriously only had 34hp??

My guess is over 10k...

It shouldn't get to $10k... I guess it's possible, but they're everyone in the 4-6k range.

Yeah.. 34hp stock. Pipes/jetting/mild port work and they make 50+ pretty easily.

Heavily worked banshees can make 75-100 hp. It's insane.

I almost forgot about this thread until Klaus bumped it yesterday.

Good time for an update on a project ive been working on.

I found a 2018 YZ250 engine on OfferUp for cheap so I got to thinking.... that would be a fun motor in one of my '86 quadracers. The 1985 and 1986 lt250 were known for being SUPER lightweight -- under 300 lbs, but suffering from a somewhat MEH, non-powervalved 2 stroke engine.

The YZ250 swap would be a great way to wake one up being they come from the factory with about 47hp to the rear wheel. Should make for a FUN 1986 lt250.

So to work I went. Needed a few frame mods to work properly, also had to rework the pipe. But it came out pretty bad ass.

And the quad absolutely flys now!! Good times.

Ended up using the YZ250 cdi box, wiring harness, coil, kill switch, everything. It came out bad ass.

Maybe I need to look again, I got on a kick not too long ago and everything local was junk, and everything listed nationwide was over 10-12k lol.

Riding these things in the summer at the shop(worked with my pops) from 93-98 is some of my best memories. I remember when you gave these throttle you'd better be ready

If you are looking for a Banshee, you will mostly likely have to drive a lot further than you want to. Keep an eye out in this FB group for them for a good price Log into Facebook

They are either junk or over priced for me locally as well usually.

Damn man!!! That is SWEET! I always thought they were pretty fast back in the day, this has to be on another level! Quadzilla HP without the weight....?
Can the frame tolerate the extra power....? Or will you need to be watching for cracks/fatigue?

All good points, all correct.

The deal with the dirt bike motors is none (or almost none) of them have balance shafts because the machine sits on 2 wheels and vibrations aren't noticed.

In a quad they vibrate a SHIT ton and this machine is no exception. She vibrates a lot but got DAMN is it fast.

We'll see how long it holds together haha

I honestly was expecting more after the ones I'd found on cycle trader (and then promptly gave up due to high price lol)

I changed my clutch cable today on the Banshee. I guess I'm ordering another cable lube tool. I used damn near a half can of spay grease and I barely got it to come out the other side of the cable. Most of it shot out the tool. I guess the rubber is shot after probably 10+ years.
