Another ECM question

If the guy buys the ECM/PCM (They are one in the same on our cars right?) with the engine, does it render my ignition useless?

Are they not paired together?

PCM = ECM = ECU

I think you are thinking of the PATS system. Unless the PATS system is turned off in the tune, if the PCM, PATS system and key are not programmed together, the PCM will not allow the car to start.
