Replaced... Wouldn't matter if it was steel or aluminum there was no fixing that. I got the bare tailgate for $477 and paid $350 for paint. One of my friends is a parts manager for a local Ford dealership so I got the gate at wholesale and my wife's Uncle runs a body shop so I got a deal on the paint work. The blue lettering was done in Sonic blue, and I had them paint the handle so the entire thing was silver with no chrome.

Fixed or replaced ?

Same thing happened to me last week. My trailer coupler failed and sent the entire thing into the back of my truck. Smashed the bumper and destroyed the tailgate. Luckily the trailer was empty. Went with a Bulldog coupler, fingers crossed it's more durable.
