My alternator once again failed on me! 3rd one yet. I have always used the stock 03/04 cobra 130amp alternators. But now im thinking that i draw to much power, and it causes my alternator to over heat, thus burning them out.

Media in CAR:
1 double din dvd player in the dash
1 12inch RE SUB in the trunk
1 RE AMP 1000 watt
And all of the tweeters and speakers are changed to diamond audio

Also have a BAP and Nitrous toggle switch.

Could all of this be drawing way to much power and causing my alternator to die?

So now im getting my alternator rebuilt to be 140-160AMP capable. Would this be enough to sustain all of this multi media without having to replace the alternator a 4th time?

Im thinking i should go 200amp... just to be safe? where would i get a rebuild kit for 200amp?

Any info would be great... thanks

I rather just get it rebuilt locally, 1 day turn around. My main question is, 140-160 stator be enough? or would i need a 200 stator to be able to safely power my sound system + car. 160 enough or 200 over kill?

Do you have an oversized alternator pulley? Changing your
supercharger pulley revs up your alternator and burns
them out.

I dont know about a oversized one.. i have the stock bronze one that is grooved.

Would changing the pulley size require me to change the size of belt?

If you change your alternator pulley from stock to a 3.2 or a 3.5,
you will require a new drive belt. Putting on a smaller upper blower
pulley or a larger crank pulley causes the alternator to speed up
and then it will burn out.
I installed a 2.93 upper pulley and a 4 pound lower pulley and then
I needed to install a 3.2 pulley on my alternator, to slow the rpm's
back down.

I just have a 2.76... for years. Like 6 years. Everything has been fine, up until i put a Sub in the trunk and a double din radio...

That's NOT me,i dont have one,i keep waiting for his domain name to expire.:D
Your stock unit is 110amp,not 130 like some people think,so any uprgade you make will help. And yes,you need 150-160amp unit, along with a minumum 3.2 pulley.:beer:200 is way too much to try to disperse the heat from...but some people build them anyway.
The larger stator also needs an upgraded rectifier with drop down leads.

Sorry about that. But at least you chimed in. Also I didn't forget about getting one of your units. Just gotta wait for my motor to get done.

Awesome! just what i wanted to hear! The people rebuilding it locally, were telling me... "Im telling you man, its 105amp! the GT's have the 130amp ones", i was like "Sounds incorrect, the supercharged one, should have 130amp, and all over the internet it says 130amp!". But im glad now!

Gonna stick with the 160amp stator. But also one more question, I have a 2.5 alt pulley on it. I dont want to upgrade to 3.2, because i dont want to loose my amps at idle... I rarely hit redline.

thanks for pointing him in here
