We will start with the car, I came home the hospital in. My parents purchased a brand new 1983 Trans Am 5 spd, I came home the hospital in this car, and I had tons and tons of road rage memories, and riding with no seat belt on, laughing at punks, that messed with my dad. They had the car up until 91. They couldn't make a sports car work anymore.
My Father traded a 77 Z28 for this 67 SS 350 car. He restored it while going to jr college to learn auto body. This was really my first taste of real muscle car. Sorry I do not have any scanned of finished pics. It was painted Marina Blue. 350 4 bolt main car, TH350 Saturday night special cam, double humps. I think he said a Edelbrock intake and a 650 holley, with full long tubes and dumped flowmasters. He tells the story of me begging him to what we say get on it. He swears it would spin the tires at 60 mph. It was sold in 1993 to ad a room on to our house after my sister was born.
So after spending the 80s pumping brakes on the 83 TA, during brake changes, and wishing I was inside watching I love Lucy at 9 at night, We made it into the 90s which landed my dad at hard place. He always put his family first. He sold his 67 which he always regretted, but it was for his family. Anyways its 1992. My parents were in a lamaz? SP? class when I was born. We had been friends with a couple and there kiddos for a while now. So my dad spotted his old 77 step side up the street from them one night. He tried for 2 years to buy it back. They would not sale. I will never forget we found out they had moved to another street. We found the truck on flats. My dad had a 85 LWB Chevy that was really clean. He offered to trade them. Finally he got it back. It was on its second motor. The original 302 went out around 40k. My dad all but killed it. He said at 32k miles he had to replace the timing chain, because he was so hard on it. It had a reman 302 in it, and it was gutless. He rebuilt the carb, and did some other stuff to it, and got it running. We drove around in it for 2 years. We had some redneck friends that had a 68 step side with huge mud tires on it. The claimed they had this truck that would boil the mud tires. I will never forget going out to the pasture and looking at this truck, all we knew at the time is that it had a BBF in it. We were thinking 460, which would have been ok. We couldn't figure out what it was. I thought it was a 390. Well either way my dad bought it. We pulled the motor together, we decoded it. It was a 428 M. Ok for you non old schoolers that is a 428 Mercury if it came out of a Ford, it would be stamped F. Anyways it didn't matter they were the same. In one day we swapped bout trucks and had the 68 running with its 302 transplant. He sold it, and then came to getting a 428 to work in 77. Luckly they built the 390 through 74. By the time we were done it had ice cold a/c and was easily braking snubbers off the traction control arms. Funny story. He was trying one late cold night to make sure he had the linkage hooked up correctly to his C6 trans. It appeared to be in Park, but was really in reverse. My dad did not know. So he had me fire it up. He says give it a little gas. I did and the truck comes shooting out of the garage. The black marks are still there. he is running with the truck telling me to hit the brakes. I was smart enough to hit them. I missed our clothes line by 1 foot, but not before my dad got a huge gash on his chest, to which he still has to this day. We had a lot of fun and a ton of memories in it. I turned 16 in October 01. I had money to buy what ever I wanted. I wanted his truck. I begged and begged him to let me buy it. He said no and made me get a 5.0 mustang as we had gotten into them in 98. Smart move lol. Anyways he wanted to hip and traded it for a beautiful 86 GT Dark grey with silver stripes with recaros. We got heavily into 5.0s at that time. I wish he would have never traded it now. The truck is now in mexico somewhere..... Makes me sad. We spent a many of late night building this truck. Anyways sorry for no engine pics, but here it is.
