I read a book bak in high school about a sniper in Vietnam. I think it was called marine sniper. Couldn't put it down.

Sounds like Carlos Hathcock's book. He's the creator of the Scout Sniper program. He was the one in the famous sniper duel where he put a round through the scope of another sniper.

I wonder if snipers really aim for head shots? Or a body shot where its more difficult to miss?

I think it depends. Head shots are a for certain kill and have a huge psychological effect on surrounding persons. But I've heard in intense firefights snipers will go for the body being that it's harder to miss when they're engaging much faster. I've also actually heard that multiple snipers will each shoot a specific part of the target at the same time, one takes the head, another the throat, then another the chest, and the last shooting the lower torso. It's completely devastating to the target of course and everyone in the area is left wondering what just happened.

So I'm sure it all depends on the target.
