How many of you guys are in the high 9's and only run a 6 point cage or no cage at all? I am in the process of turning my car into a more track friendly car and hope to race the Terminator/GT500 shootout next year and maybe True Street in the NMRA. The car is still driven on the street often, going solid rear, full suspension, and auto this winter and shooting for 9.70's/9.80's/9.90's...

I'm not sure I'm comfortable with cutting the car up and welding in a 10 point at this point in time as the car is still a very clean, low mileage, limited production car.. I had planned on going with a MM bolt in 6 point with removable door bars (Legal to 9.99), however I dont want to do all this work to the car and get booted after one 9.90 pass. So how many of you guys run faster than 9.99 without a 10 point and how does that work out for you?

It all depends on the track you run at. I understand your conundrum though, my car goes 9's with no cage and I don't plan to put one in. I hate a caged car personally as I still drive my car regularly, drive it to work, take my kids to school/daycare in it and just don't want to deal with that race car stuff. The national event/NMRA races will be much more stringent on the safety stuff so I would bet if you plan to run 9's, you're going to need the required safety gear. Good luck man!

For the shootout, they really are not super anal about tech. For example I ran a 9.9@143 this past May at the SHOOTOUT with a custom chromoly 8 point and no one said a word. Senkak runs 9.70s with a vert and 6 point. I can't speak for other events, but the Shootout has leniency.

Definitely depends on the track, at our local strip there have been plenty of people in the 9's with no cage at all and have never had anything said to them. I have a MM 6-pt cage with swingouts in mine and love it, door bars are super easy to remove if you don't want to run them on the street.

Here's a few pics of my setup (Powdercoated Anthracite to match DSG as close as possible)

I have a 10pt cage and still drive mine as often as there is good weather. I also have swing out bars that stay at the house till it is time to go to the track

Local track announced they're requiring engine diaper or pan for 11 sec and faster cars thanks to all the shit box imports. Consider yourself luck you "only" need a cage.

Yeh they added that this year to the import vs domestic rules. Needless to say I won't be running :(
