Gears alone could cost north of $500 when it is said and done. The gears may only be $150 or so, but an install kit is another $100, a Speedcal is another $100, and install could be $300+. They are definately worth it though.

In the meat patch
gears, pull the pumkin yourself, try and have a buddy set them up ect. Buy a used mid pipe, used pullies, best bang for the buck on that limited of a budger:beer:

A set of pullies can be had for $100 and with the money left over, you may be able to get a hand held tuner and stay under your $500 budget. :burnout: :burnout:

IMO, a handheld tuner would not be worth the money on a car with only a CAI, a catback, and a set of pullies.

The Prochamber alone should get you to 300. I saw a Mach 1 pull 305 with just that.

Have you put it on a dyno yet to see what it has now? 300rwhp is nice but if you really want to feel the car pull, go with the gears. You will definitely feel the difference from the 3.27's... I wish I would have went with 4.30's!!! 3.73's are not enough!

I went with 4.30's and I wish I had 4.56's.

4.56 is way too much for any amount of highway driving. I have 4.10s and would consider 4.30, but wouldn't be able to handle being in 5th gear doing 40 around town.
But anyways on my 99 cobra with prochamber, jba catback, CAI and a very safe tune makes a little over 305rwhp.

Nonsense. There's nothing wrong with 4.56s on the highway. I cruise at 3,200 RPM and still get 20 MPG (23 city -- 5th gear at 25 MPH). The cars not loud when cruising (even with an o/r x and race mufflers). I'm also a tubby 'vert so that may necessitate more wind-up :)

How fast are you going because at 80 my 4.10s are turning pretty hard. I'm not saying some people can't deal with 4.56 on the highway, but no way your average driver wants to sit in a car turning that many rpm's for a long duration of time.

Did a calculator and figured this 27" tire and 4.56's at 80mph = 4500+rpms

Some people think thats a ton and some think its normal, but atleast now we know what kind of rpms we are talking about.

80MPH @ 3,200 RPM; 25.68" tall tire (245/45-17, stock dimensions), 4.56 gears. Your numbers look like you did that calculation in 4th gear, not 5th.

*edit*
A 27" tire would just drop the RPMs further since it's larger than stock. You're looking around 3,000 RPM with 4.56s in 5th gear at 80 MPH.

My mistake, your right I used a dyno chart I had for a 1:1 ratio.
