I guess it all depends upon what you do besides just stroking. I have heard of 500+ hp out of a 347 stroker.

Just adding the stroker kit without upgrading other areas of the engine (intake, heads, exhaust) will only net you maybe 30 - 40 hp (if that). MM&FF did an swap a few years back on a 5.0L GT keeping the stock heads, intake and exhaust and installing a 347 stroker kit. If I can find the article, I will tell you which issue and the exact hp numbers. With the right parts, 500 hp from a 347 is not a problem.
Just remember, speed costs money, how fast do you want to go? :D

I personally would go the 331 route.
Most 347's have issues. I remember that article in MM&FF... If you're gonna stroke it, plan on at least heads and possible intake work or swap also.

347's are nice, might be a bit much for the street and reliability. Checkout some of the problems associated with the longer stroke and the positioning of the rings on the pistons. This was a problem a couple years ago, I haven't followed closely enough to know if they found a good solution around the ring ride heigth yet. Make sure you build your engine as a package, a killer 347 short block can be wasted unless you use a nice head and intake combo..

Why are you going to 347?
If you're going to rebuild a stock motor, a 347 is a great idea.
As long as your not too attached the the stock heads/cam/intake they can make a streetable 450hp. Even if you keep the stock stuff, the extra torque of the stroker is worth it. :burnout:
And the 331 is a good motor, but I'd go with a 347 too.

500?..N/A...I hope you guys are adding nitrous or some other power adder..

the fastest 347's (N/A) out there are usually 430 to 460 RW....enough to get any foxbody into the low 11's, high 10's with the right suspension...

I say go 331 and port the shit out of your intake and stock heads...yiou'll pick up 40 to 50 RW at the most.....

I was talking a streetable 450 flywheel hp. It is very possible if you know what you're doing. I agree that 500hp out of a 347 is pushing streetability pretty far. I have a 530+hp 427 and I like it. :coolman:

As far as the 331 goes, look at your sig.
That's torque and I'll take the 347's extra torque all day--it'll make 20+tq over a like 331.

Don't beleive the magazine hype about 331's being better than 347's. Times have changed and they have rectified those early problems. I'd go 347 and never look back.

I have a 347. It will be expensive to get the combo right. Don't get 1 5/8" lt headers definitely go with some quality 1 3/4" headers. With the right heads, intakes and cam it seems that people are getting around 400 to the tire N/A.

If you want to keep your stock stuff with some head/intake porting work I think you could put around 300 to the ground pretty inexpensively. That's 60-70 more than they put down stock.
