This is my 13th (I think?) Mustang. I had a convertible C5 for a bit but decided to get back into an S197. My last Mustang was a 2011 GT auto with a Circle D converter, Boss manifold, Mike Rousch tune (the best!), off road x-pipe, E85, that ran 11.40s. I've had a Vortech-then-turbo 2005 GT, KB then-turbo 99 GT convertible, foxes, etc. Anyway...
2006 GT. 54000 miles. Has a Vortech H.O. aftercooled S-trim on it. Stock everything else. 4.10 gears. Auto trans. Magnaflow exhaust. 39lb injectors, unknown fuel pump.
I disliked the wheels that came on it very much and they totally didn't fit the car. They are American Racing Rebel 18x9, +12 offset (!).
Hit the track 2 days after I bought it. Was happy with running multiple 12.1s at 116mph...seems pretty good for having not much done to it.
I generally like the Bullitt/Torque-thrust type wheels, especially on the 05-09 body, but the factory ones are too small and the offsets and lip are boring.
I found these B&G Rod Works 'Old School' wheels which have a more traditional pointed spoke instead of the more common rounded spoke, and the 18x9 sizing and +35mm offset fit 'just right' IMO, sitting just inside the fenders with the 255/45 tires I have now. A 285/40 tire would look better / more badass in the back but I'm using the tires that came on the car for now. Also the center caps that come with these are very 'pointy' shaped which I thought would be OK but IMO look really bad on my car. So I just reversed them. I wanted to find or make some flat ones.
Then went to another track day last weekend at Cedar Falls Raceway. Had a great time. Happy to be in the 11s already, lots of room to improve too.
I found some classic-style flat machined aluminum bolt-on center caps for the B&G Rod Works wheels, made by www.dashman.net. I also deleted the spoiler, and did a plasti-dip rear decklid panel and pony emblem in the grill. Now I'd like to drop the rear 1/2" or so to level it out by cutting 1/2 to 1 coild out of the rear Eibach Pro-Kit springs.
