Got the deal of a lifetime on a 2006 Mustang GT in Satin Silver. High mileage on the chassis(170k+)but fresh engine in it. Picking it up tomorrow. Originally a Georgia car so rust should be at an absolute minimum.
as some know, I run a team in the Champ Car Endurance Racing Series. We currently run a 2002 Hyundai Elantra in Class B(1.92L - 2.4L engine size) and have been somewhat successful at Class podiums with 1 win at the 12 hrs of VIR South in 2022. We have been itching to get faster and into a better platform for the last few months. This car will replace the Hyundai and move us from Class B into Class D(3.92L and higher).
Plan is to get the car to the storage location for now. Assess what it needs prior to going off to get caged.
Car starts at a VPI(Vehicle Performance Index) of 530 points. Every 10 points over 500 gets you a -1 penalty lap assessed at the start of the race. Plan is to keep it under 750 points total to give us a competitive chance.
Points Upgrades(110 points added total):
Engine Mounts - 10
Caster/Camber Top Hats - 20
Billet IMRC Deletes - 25
3.5" Aluminum Driveshaft - 10
Torsen T2R - 25
Adjustable Panhard Bar - 10
Front Sway Bar - 20
Points Free:
Dampers - Bilstein? Steeda Pro Action?
Springs - Steeda Competition or Sports
4 Piston Front Brembos + 14" Rotors - Powerstop Kit(GT500 take offs)
EPAS Conversion(reduce overheating power steering)
Short Throw Shifter
90mm MAF w/ intake
Catalyst delete + Axle back
18x9 or 18x9.5 or 18x10 + 275/40R18 RS4s(2 sets)
This puts us at 650 VPI total which would put us 12 laps down on the field to start the beginning of a race.
This is my second S197 car and i look forward to building this over the next 6-8 months to get ready for March of 2025 at 12hrs of VIR South as its debut.
Plans are to mimic the FR500C cars from the mid 2000's which i loved. Something like this:
