1st attempt with the porter-cable

detailed my 2003 lightning this weekend with my new pc.
my process included
washed with dawn soap
clay bared
megs 205 with green pad
finished with some 1000p that the vendor sent me to try

really happy with how easy the pc was to use and it got rid of 95% of my micro scratches from wiping down between washes.
doesn't look to bad for 7 year old truck

Looks awesome! You take good care of that truck? So is this your first time ever using a buffer? I want to pick one up but I'm afraid I'll mess it up big time.

You got a beautiful result.

The Lightning looks brand new, or even better than they looked on the showroom floor.

to kind
i get that quite often, it helps having a great canvas to start on. just rolled over 22k and she only comes out on the weekends

I recently picked one up. If you follow a couple of guidelines it's pretty hard to mess things up. Use a black marker and mark the back of the backing plate so you can see how much the buffer is spinning. And use the least aggressive polish + pad to get the job done. Start out light. These will get you started out safely.

I put the PC on my black Cobra just this past weekend (orange pad + Meguiars Swirl X). Only the 2nd time I used it. (First time was on my white beater just for practice.) No problems at all. And improved the finish dramatically.

Another tip I learned the hard way - get some masking tape and mask off the area you want to work. Especially the window trim and any plastic pieces.

So - I was in the same boat a few weeks ago. Jump on in.

Oh and OP - nice truck!! Jealous!!

I don't think you can mess up with a DA. I even stopped using my rotary because the DA is so forgiving. Looks awesome, that color cleans up real nice, awesome you only had to one step it!
