Hello,
I have a 1996 Cobra with 17k miles. It seems as though the 2nd gear synchro has gone bad because it grinds at high revs with quick shifts (Not power shifting or even partial throttle). It has a B&M short throw shifter (Not sure if this could be part of the problem). Is it worth getting it rebuilt or purchasing an already rebuilt unit (seems I can get one for $1200ish rebuilt)? If a rebuild is recommended are there any reputable shops near Chicago, IL?

Thank you,
Al

if your car is stockish, you should be able to find a nice stage 1 upgrade for less than that, 900 range after core dep.
I had a horrible experience with a " rebuild" on my 96 cobra trans.
Ultimately ended up buying the trans I wanted and paying the shop helper to slap it in to get my car out of there, after 5+ weeks of getting the run around from the owner.
I had no garage at the time, and winter was approaching.... If you have a garage, do it your self.
