Just my 2 cents, but the GT350 is more of a Boss 302 replacement. To compare it to a 13/14 GT500 is not fair to either car. The GT500 feels like a tank compared to the GT350.... But the GT500 feels like a rocket in a straight line compared to the GT350..... Again just my 2 cents.....

I've owned 2 13 GT500s, and put a combined 20k miles on them.

I drove the GT350R at lime rock.

2 completely different cars. Both feel extremely different.

However, I was not disappointed in the speed or the power of the GT350

Traded my '13 GT500 in on a '16 GT350. While I think the 500 was/is amazing, I am not at all disappointed in the trade. The 500 had gobsmacking power and torque, but the issue was always being able to put the power down and still be in control of the car. There were a number of times I nearly lost it because I gave it too much throttle at the wrong time. There is no hint of loss of control with the 350. It does exactly what you want it to do with no surprises. True, it really is a completely different kind of car from the 500 so a head-to-head comparison don't really tell you much.

Completely different cars. Plus stock GT500s are a poor example, so easy to upgrade, even a tire change makes them worlds better. If the GT500 had the 350s 295/305 or 305/315 rubber the GT500 would be much better.
Either way, I own a '14 and plan to own a 350R but keeping the '14.

I disagree they're hard to compare. Different cars, absolutely. But the 13-14 500 out of the box is very capable on a road course if driven well. And the stock Goodyears on the 500 also perform well on the track with some heat. These cars have very different strengths, and I assume a 350 will be more confidence inspiring and easier to get around a track fast, but I would not dismiss the 500 as a car that can't be compared to the 350 on a racetrack. I hope I get the opportunity to really get after it in a 350 on track someday so I can make my own comparison. I'm certainly curious.

Correctly, the stock GYs are ONLY decent on a HOT track, terrible on the street.
It would be interesting to see 500 vs 350 on same track, same tire, same driver.
Either way, I'll enjoy my GT500 on the street/strip.

The only place a the GT500 would beat the GT350 is at the drag strip. Pretty much everywhere else, the GT350 is will outperform the GT500. Quality, comfort, capability, amount of car for the money (not just HP), etc. I personally don't think you can compare the two fairly because just about every test would be in the GT350's favor. Just my opinion having dealt with both cars.

Agreed, the GT500 would only win in stock straight line performance. Having owned multiple S197s and now a S550 I find the S550 platform to be superior. Unless you're hung up on the Shelby name and warrantied stock performance, a 16 GT with a Whipple is probably the best buy out of any of them right now until GT350 pricing comes back down to earth.

I have a 14 GT500 and a 16 GT350. As 1st Shelby pointed out, there have been times in the 500 where my ass formed a vacuum on the seat from throttle issues, either crappy road condition, etc. The GT350 handles really well, and in the same conditions where the 500 would have gotten squirrelly on me, the 350 held true. Everyday driving, my 350 takes the ribbon.

I'm the last person that you would ever find to be hung up on a name, but the GT350 is a TON of car for the money. If you can buy one at MSRP, it's a steal IMO. I don't think just buying a GT and throwing a blower on it would get you anything like the GT350's all around performance. Maybe you can compare the GT with a blower to the GT500 and I would still take a blown GT over a GT500, but the GT350, IMO, is still way more car.

Have both

I have a 13 GT500 and a 16 GT350.Both have Track Pack.
They are very different cars.
The GT350 handling and especially ride is far ahead ot the GT500.
There is quite a bit of drama with the 500,none with the 350.
You feel every pound of the extra 375 or so the 500 carries.
A little more torque at low RPM would be nice.
Overall pretty happy with the GT350.

Agreed but getting a GT350 under or at MSRP is a bit of a challenge at the moment for most people.
