I just wanted to know from some SVTper's that which mustang you think will win consider the facts...Oh yeah Stock for Stock!!

1996-98 SVT Cobra:

Torque......................300 lbs-ft @ 4800 rpm
Transmission..............Borg Warner T45 Five speed
Rear end.................. 8.8" Solid axle 3.27:1 ratio w/Traction Lock

05/06 Mustang GT:

The Cobra has one big dissadvantage: Improper gears from the factory. The 3.55s are a pretty good gear for the GT's power range. From a low speed roll, Id say GT. From a dead stop where the Cobra can bring up the rpms and slip the clutch to bring it into its power range, Id say Cobra. Equally mod the cars, Exaust, CAI, 4.10 gears, tune, and drag radials, it would be the Cobra all the way.

No doubt the '05/06 GT. S**t the 99-01 Cobra with 320 hp would have a hard time with a well driven '05/06 GT let alone the 96-98. I've seen a bone stock time of 13.5 at 103 for the new GT and I know that's in range of the '01 Cobra.

So a 05' would beat your gt then? A geared 96-01 cobra will blow te doors off these gt's but, stock for stock with the cobr's at a factory's slowstart the 05 gt and 96 tied and the 99/01's will win.

I would have to agree, Its a drivers race stock vs stock!! My buddy has an 05 when I drove it it felt just like my stock 97 Cobra, with the exception of better handling, better ride!! LOL But I would have to say a geared, especially 4.30 SN 95 Cobra will beat an 05!! Just my opinion!! Hopefully mine will be ready soon, and I will see first hand!!

I just like that my almost stock ten year old Cobra that I payed 10,500 for is still competitive with brand new sporty cars. (Mustang GT, 350Z, RX8, 300C, SRT-4) :)

Competive... The gt and 300c maybe, but we can wipe the floor with those other cars. But yes you have good point. :rolling:

GT's 320 lb/ft and 3.55's get the jump and hold it to the end, drivers being equal.
In most cases, drivers race.

I agree. The GT would probably get the better launch and will have enough power to hold the Cobra. Stock for stock we're only talking about a 5 hp difference.

Yeah the '05 would easily handle my stock '02 auto GT Conv. :nonono:

Yeah no doubt the '99/01 Cobra should pull the '05/06 GT on top end but at the drag strip it's a toss up based off the average numbers I've got from both.

i think this one would go to the lighter cobra, both weights listed above are off, my cobra weighed 3350 with 3/4 tank of gas, i also weighed an 05 gt it was 3520 with a 1/4 tank, both cars stock as in no weight reduction

Driver's race. As previously mentioned, GT's downfall is weight, Cobra's downfall are gears. Give the Cobra a gear upgrade, any gear, and it's Cobra all the way...
