Anyone with a Holley figure out how to to get a bump button to work? The quick6 transbrake will work tied in on the 2step from the Holley but, I haven’t tried getting the bump to work. Just seeing if anyone else figured it out before diving in.

After a few years, I decided to give the 6R80 another try but this time in my 2003 Mach1. It makes about 1/2 the horsepower of my TTSaleen so I thought it might work better.

Overall view -
Built 4.6 with 2.3 VMP Supercharger
L+M cams
Stock computer on E85
Previously had T56 magnum and made 790rwhp and ran 10.18 @ 140mph in 1/4.

2024 build for 6R80 with current pricing:
This time I decided to do things more on a budget and not go "all-out".

2014 6R80 trans and converter out of 2014 Lincoln Navigator - Ebay $600
Dorman 946-374 driveshaft - O'reilly's $430
Stiffler's crossmember - $0 - had leftover from previous project
Flexplate - $0 - had leftover from previous project
Midplate - $0 - had leftover from previous project
Bellhousing bolts - W714012-S439 - $23 (2 packs of 4 each)
IRS flange adapter - Neapco N3-2-1579 Flange Yoke 1350 Series - $50
Quick6 Gen2 6R80 controller - $1,255
2004 auto shifter - $150
2004 shift cable - XR3Z-7E395-AA - $63
Dipstick - 22200 - $165
Trans cooler - Derale 15300 Tube and Fin Cooler -$89
8AN PTFE Line Kit - $92
New trans filter - FT-188 - $18
New trans pan gasket - FEL-PRO TOS 18753 - $24
12 Quarts Mercon LV fluid - $99
Trans cooler fittings - Power by Hour 620-v2 - $128
Shift lever arm - Power by Hour 617 - $43

Initial impressions -
My car has the L+M cams and a noticeable idle. While this works great for a manual car, I had to increase the base idle speed to compensate when putting car in gear.
Before it would die/idle too low due to drag of 6R80.
My base idle is 1,100 rpm now and in gear it will hold idle at 850 rpm.
With the AC on, it will hold idle at 950 rpm.
Other than this little annoyance, it drive VERY well.

The new Gen2 controller is much improved over the older Gen1 I had used before.
So far no error codes, shifts exactly where I tell it, and runs great.
Having the digital interface is also nice for diagnostics and telling what gear it is in.

Problems so far -
I had to adjust the shift cable twice to get it to tell the controller it was in the correct position. Not a big deal.
The driveshaft is a 1 piece, but made of steel. I have a vibration around 35-45 mph and it is pretty bad. The shaft is only out 1.5" from fully collapsed (had 3.5" total of movement available), so not sure if it just needs balancing or something else is happening.
The 104,000 mile stock transmission is NOT happy with my approximately 900 flywheel horsepower!
The first few days it ran and shifted perfectly.
After I BEAT on it a few times, it now flares going into 4th gear.
Guess I should have done the clutch upgrade while I had it out. Oh well live an learn!

I will tell you the car feels ALOT faster now, but it is killing the tires with my 3.73 rear gears. I need to drop that down and thinking something like 3.15 or 3.27 due to the instant torque of my supercharger (23# boost).

I'm hoping to run high 9's when I go back to the track, but won't until the weather cools off and I get the clutches changed in it.

Here's 2 videos I did on it.
1st is the entire swap process.
2nd is the "torture" session on street tires.

Did you ever think of doing what Lund did and use the Coyote PCM to run the 6R80? I know that basically they ran it as a locked cam Coyote since it is a 4V.

Cool stuff, I have a favor to ask of anyone running the quick 6 Gen 2 controller, after driving around for 10-20 minutes does your red wire on the solenoid plug at the controller get warm or hot, mine does and I've checked it end to end. May have found my issue with the sporadic shifting, unless it's normal, any help is appreciated.

Well end of year track visit and it was all worth it (doing the 6R80 swap)!
My previous best time with the T56 magnum was a 6.63 @ 112 mph 1/8th and 10.18 @ 140 mph in 1/4.
Yesterday I ran my personal bests so far with the 6R80.
6.28 @ 114mph in 1/8th and 9.87 @ 125mph in 1/4.
I shredded my supercharger belt at 1000 feet and essentially coasted the reason for the low mph!
I am super stoked! Car is an animal on the street so I knew it was going to throw some good numbers at the track!

Working on videos now, but 1st pass I launched in 1st and blew the tires off.
2nd pass I launched in 2nd and it skated around a little but was a pretty solid run.

Thanks Bob! It's been a fun project for sure.

Now with video.
After watching it, I determined that my boost pressure was moving around a lot between 15# and 22# on first pass.
On the 2nd pass it was more steady around 20#.
The air/fuel is fat at 10.0 to 10.4 going down the track so I could lean it out some there.
It also had some tire shake in both passes and I attribute that to the low pressure in the slicks.

@Ryan2KRedL

any updates on how its going with the transmission swap?

Ever figure anything out with the idle speed?

got a buddy trying to convince me (if I go auto) to go Th400, partly because of the 3.27 first gear in the 6R80 but I really dont wanna be stuck with a 60mph cruising speed

I have 3.27 rear gear with my 6r80 and a 26in tall tire, at 2k rpm I'm running 68mph. Did have a 3.73 rear gear but it was too much of an animal down low, recently swapped to the 3.27 and gained some "cruising comfort "

Can also run a 28” on the street for cruise RPM.
6R80 is a great option but only if using OEM tuning from what I’ve seen.

That’s 100% correct especially if you’re on a stand alone. It was a pain to try and get everything to work together. I went th400 and wish I did in the first place. I also got a gearvender overdrive for on the highway. Perfect combo.

damn, extra $3,200. No wonder they sponsor the drag and drives

My Mach1 has been doing great with the 6R80 swap.
The key change was the FTI 3800 stall converter. Allows me to put car in gear without stalling!
Car has run 9.80's in 1/4 so far and cruises great.
I have to launch in 2nd gear because my 3.73's blow the tires off in 1st gear launch.
I also run the Gen2 US Shift controller Quick6 in the car and it has been flawless.

I have a TH400 full manual in my TTSaleen. It does fine, cruises good and has ran 8.50's in the 1/4.

But from a drop in gear and go, the 6R80 is a total package.

i was told probably drop down to like a 3.08 or something rear either way.

reasonable cruising speed/mpg is def a factor for drag week type stuff, over the course of 1500 miles 60mph vs 70-75mph adds up

If I were to change from 3.73, I would goto something like a 3.15 gear.
But only to allow me to launch in 1st gear at track without killing the slicks.
But overall, it is great as-is.
I really like the 6R80 setup now that I've sorted it out from all the problems I had on my 1st one years ago.

glad to see it seems like they've improved it, seemed more miss than hit previously. Whats it run to have one of these things built?

Jason @ Wicked Performance in Raleigh did my latest 6R80. All good stuff inside and was about $3K parts/labor. Highly recommend. He also built the TH400 in my TTSaleen.

Just a video showcasing the sounds of the Mach1 and the 6R80 shifting. I really am loving this setup for how docile it is until you mash the throttle and then how violent it can be (but fun). My 3.73 gears are definitely contributing to the tire spin!
