Ford driveability and gas heavy line tech here. I have a 2013 5.0 myself and find I wish I would have gotten 3.5 as the reliability is not to far from each other and I'm now towing a 5k lb travel trailer lol.
But for the choice among those engines in 15+ for me it comes down to
2.7= fuel...
They also had a shorter final drive than the r. I had one of those with a Barker's slip on and ebr ecm. On a good day it would hit it's rpm limit (11k) in top gear at 161.

That's a fairly common one that takes care of both the phasers and chain stretch issue. That's surprising they won't do anything about it.i would maybe contact Ford customer service.
As far as 5.0 vs eco all I can say is they both have their faults and I have replaced an equal number of both...

im curious to see if anyone has done this. i have tried the base boss 9.5 and it fits no rubbing from lock to lock and road test, just dont have access to a laguna to test fitment. and staggered is not what im looking for, i want to rotate and have a square setup for trackday purposes.
